In that case it's a pretty firm loss in the opening round, then.

Yes, wouldn't it be great to be talking about where BSU might be seated in the NCAA Basketball Tournament in March. Instead we get to speculation on why someone who could obviously make a contribution isn't playing. Seeded.....they have been "seated" for a long while now. Just sayin. Probably a function of their "loosing" ways. My bad, it's been so long since BSU has been in the tournament I've forgotten the proper terminology.

If Windham hasn’t played tomorrow by the 10 minute mark in the 2nd half, someone should walk down to the bench and offer him a dollar dog. Let him know we support him 100% in his three point chucking tactics!

I believe he’ll be in the rotation but I’m not sure why he’s been out so long!!

You don't shit whit and get away with it.. I foresee a Davis or Kiapway situation unfolding What was the deal with Kiapway? He was one dimensional on offense, but a real sharpshooter and he did have athleticism and could play defense. His case was one where performance just fell off the cliff and I did not understand it.
Davis, he had some history, and I watched in practice and we saw his game performance and thought was pretty ordinary coaching problem, in the end a gamble that went wrong.

He shot over 40% from three one season but only averaged 8 pts. What good is a sharpshooter if he only puts up five shots a game ?

We've had some players who succeeded and some failed based on having or lacking something else to add to the shooting skill.
Sellers was a success, Gunn a notable failure, for example.
When Francis stopped hitting the basket, he could defend, but we needed offense and it was a sad ending.
You're too hard on Francis, too. Kiapway did hit an awful lot of 3's. He was disappointing because the shooting dropped off and he didn't meet expectations or actually even come close his last year. But he always did enough else to deserve to be on the court, but when you need that shooting and it's not there, he had to lose PT.

Yeah that's one thing about Whitford, he never plays a guy who doesn't work hard on the defensive end of the floor. Where do you get this crap, Whitford has never based playing time on defensive effort. Every coach cares about effort and team play. And practice play We have no idea why this player hasn't played. Stupid to argue much about it. Or to assume some egregious error by staff. I regret that current culture on the forum. This coach has burned any benefit of the doubt over his miserable 9 years here. I hope the media continues to challenge his inane post game statements.

I'm not sure what you mean that Sellers was a "success". His field goal percentage (2pt. and 3pt.) dropped each year after his freshman year and he never did average double figures again after averaging 12 pts as a freshman. I liked Sellers - saw him play in high school. But he never improved after his freshman year. Heck it was all downhill after the opening game against Utah.

If there was ever a player that was a perfect example of the James Whitford era at Ball State, it is Sean Sellers. 12 points a game as a freshman while playing close to 30 minutes. Gets weirdly benched as a soph - playing only 18 minutes a game, started only 2 games, and averaged only 6 points a game (while still putting up 32 against EKU) Only scores 8 ppg over the next 2 seasons, shooting percentage goes down as a Sr (recurring theme of Whitford Seniors) and regressed statistically other than rebounds. Basically, he went from a building block, a player who would have been a solid double figure scorer (not just a 3-point shooter) at any other program, but we end up regressing him to a role player that was just a had a fair career.
Oh, and that benching ... it's because we added Ryan Weber, who Whit had a weird boner for. Weber, as we all remember, wasn't as good or as athletic as Sellers, but Whitford preached that he was the "best player on the team" when we added him. We all know that was not true.
