I sit 3 rows up behind the bench and saw something amazing last night. Mid way through the 2nd half, during a media timeout - while Whit was chatting the officials, Darner jumped in the huddle and laid into the team. Paraphrasing, but he said something like "Dammit, get your heads up, show some energy and passion and play like you want to win this game". That is the first time I can remember a red-faced coach rip into our team ... I was a bit worried he was going to stroke out ... and he said way more than I quoted above, but that was the first time in 4 years that I have seen someone attempt to light a fire and gets some intensity into our team ... usually timeouts are not loud and just basic X&O talk ... never any passion or energy, as we all expect. And how did the team respond? I find Whit's postgame "talks" with the team to be really vanilla and wishy washy. He's just not charismatic and struggles to speak with any passion or fortitude. It's always so low key and unenthusiastic and to me drains the emotion of a win away. The players have blank looks on their faces when he's talking to them.

Well I believe. I think it was the under 8 TO. We were down five at that time and tied it up after that and took the lead.

I wonder if Whitford ever challenges his team like that or if its just always about process. Sometimes you got to challenge your guys to have some balls and intensity and play like they actually want to win.

I finally acted on Calhoun's plea to let the administration know how I feel so I just texted Beth Goetz demanding change. I can't take the complete lack of inspiration any longer. Whitford is in so far over his head and never fails to show it. That I had no desire to even turn on the TV last night makes me want to puke. I can't believe the program has been allowed to become so irrelevant.

BSU played mediocre defense in the 2nd half. They had a 3 point lead with 6 seconds left and could keep CMU from scoring. Then BSU goes scoreless the first 4 minutes of OT. Way to close out a game at home. We only had 7 fouls up 3 points with 6 seconds left. An intentional foul after they cross the time line, according to the odds, game over we win……

I'm sure Someguy meant committing a foul with intention, but not in a way as to bring about an intentional foul call. As you know this happens all the time late in games and is rarely ruled an intentional foul.

Persons would have fit in very well here in the days before the program sucked.
By the way, it's very striking how repetitive and dumb the threads are here after you've been away for a while and have some perspective.

<rant>Checked my blood pressure this morning. Still mad. Four days after manhandling the first place MAC team, they can't maintain a three-point lead with six seconds to play. This team is rudderless, bobbing like a cork on the waves unable to control their own destiny. Good effort one night, poor effort the next. What does that sound like to you? I don't want to hear more any nonsense about youth. This is the team that Whit-less has recruited. This is the team that he puts on the floor. Every February, when other teams have learned how to play together and have good chemistry, Ball State falls apart and starts losing.</rant>

The frustrating thing is that they CAN do it. Like Toledo. But then the next game don't.
That probably always hurts more, not as bad as always falling apart. Even good teams have bad games. But when you count on them to win a game they should win, it feels worse.
