Don’t forget our youth! We are practically babies 👶 out there. Here’s the opening paragraph of our game day notes from yesterday. The Cardinals are one of the youngest teams in the NCAA this season. The Cardinals are ranked 348th out of 358 in terms of experience. It is the lowest of any MAC schools over the last nine seasons. The conference has not seen a team ranked worse than 340 in the Whitford era at Ball State.
Such BS So you’re saying you are calling BS. Power move. 💪

So you’re saying you are calling BS. Power move. 💪 You know things are bad when they’re citing that crap IN MARCH. I fear it’s part of building the rationalization for keeping whit next year.

Not that the youth excuse needs any more debunking, but our youth is a strength of this team. Take away Sparks and Sellers and we’re a significantly worse team. And with our history of developing talent it’s not like they’re going to get any better.

I question this. I want to see the data being used. Only two out of the top eight in minutes played are freshmen. That's not exceptional. It's not even unusual.

Is this "statistic" an overall age/class/experience (games played) of a roster or the experience of players who play significant minutes. Also, a cursory google search of Youngest NCAA Division 1 teams, yields nothing. This smells made up ... Who knows, I might make time today to see if I can get some data behind this, I love a good research project. I'll take a Core 8 of each team and use both class of each player in that Core 8 and also games played to see if that jives. Stay tuend

I think whit has been playing semantics with the eligibility of players. That extra Covid year makes Cochran a "sophomore" even though he played two years at NIU. He's a junior in terms of experience. Same with Jacobs. Played 3 years at St. Louis but we're calling him a junior. We're calling Bumbalough a sophomore. etc. etc.

When I look at the BSU roster and playing time numbers, I see a team that looks very middle-of-the-road in both age and experience. These ranking quoted just seem very fishy. I want to see the data.

Is this really Bumbalough’s 3rd year playing at BSU?

Is this really Bumbalough’s 3rd year playing at BSU? Yes. Was a sophomore last year and we liked calling him that so much we're calling him a sophomore again this year. There are 3 years worth of pictures of him on his roster bio. Thomas is a senior and was honored as such on senior night, but we're calling him a redshirt junior. Huggins is a senior and moving on. Last year he was a redshirt junior. This year we're calling him a.....redshirt junior. If people outside the program (and us) look only at the current roster designations, sure, we look younger/less experienced than we really are. Just for the sake of argument I picked a random player on Miami's team--Mekhi Lairy. This is his 4th (senior) year. Miami calls him a senior, not a junior. Delonte Brown is a 5th year senior and is designated as that. At BSU he'd be considered a senior. (not 5th year) IMO Whitford is trying to shade the truth about the age/experience of this team.

Pearson is an amusing example
2017-18 senior year in HS
2018-19 prep school 2019-20 redshirt at TCU 2020-21 played 19 games at TCU 2021-22 playing at BSU
In other words, Pearson is in his 4th season post high school.....what would have ordinarily been a senior year.
Ball State lists him as...a freshman. You see! Here's another freshman that's in our top seven rotation! We are so young!
Probably what is happening here is, as Herman suspects, BSU has moved the clock back one year on everyone, and is then comparing itself to other teams that have not. That's how you can take a lineup that doesn't appear particularly young at all, and fabricate the "we are so young!" excuse.

I heard Whitford refer to Pearson as a freshman multiple times in January, grouping him with the TRUE freshmen we have, ("our 5 freshmen...") and he made it sound almost like Pearson just came outa high school and was lost in the woods.... And of course the StarPress guy eats that up and regurgitates the narrative of our youth on a regular basis, as do the radio and TV guys. Hook, Line, Sinker....

This is why comparing Brown to Farrakhan as Freshman is ludicrous. Pearson's history except for the number of high schools attended is just like Farrakhan another 21 yr old freshman?

I’d say barring a miracle in Cleveland that Whit is history!
He’s truly is a nice person but has not gotten the job done!
I’d like to see a fresh face with some personality and some track record.

After witnessing the complete embarrassment called BSU Men's basketball tonight, with bourbon in hand, I looked at Whit-less's Swoon record in his previous campaigns. For February under Whit we have a record of 26-62. Excluding the CIT pay-in games, the March record for Whit is 8-23.With this season sinking fast, how can the University NOT make a change after tonight's pathetic showing. This program is going nowhere under Whitford. Update: 9 Year Swoon-Feb.: 28-64 March: 10-25 Whit still is mediocre at best.
