Ray and Majerus seemed to recruit just fine and until new administration came in I think Buck did okay. He came in and had some momentum, but it was fragile.
It wasn't the BSU administration exactly, he was struggling with the changes that were coming all across the board with administration everywhere. NCAA being more rule bound and academic emphasis increased. Recruiting with "exceptions" for athletes became harder.
Not to mention having to deal with more and more kids who didn't want to be coached.

FYI - You're obvious and ridiculous strawman "We should be recruiting and deserve only 4 and 5 star athletes" just might be the stupidest initial post ever.
You're never going to be part of our elite and select group like that. And by "elite and select group", I mean about a dozen guys whose time is so lacking in value that we can trade posts about a dismal, failed basketball program for up to two decades.

You know after thinking about it we could do worse than Whitford. We could be TSIB fans and pay our head coach $3 million plus per year, and each of the assistants $300K plus per year, bring in 4 and 5 star recruits, and still end up with a pile of horse shit.
Kind of makes you feel good about Whitford.

Ahhh the old Fans can't be critical post. Typically these have came from some one with ties to the program. If that's the case again please pass all of these along to Jimmy and crew.

My point was not that being critical was wrong. Far from it. I'm critical of a lot that is going on. My point was that I was searched for a "Fan Site". This is not what I would consider a fan site. It appears the favorite topics of conversation is how much we hate the coach and how embarrassing it was to watch a game because the players are so bad. Then when we win, were just lucky because we played so bad... My comments regarding 4 and 5 star athletes meant that you can't expect 4 & 5 star performance out of 2 star athletes. It looks to me like these boy are working their tails off. Their body language looks totally defeated after a loss. They sure can't chose the offensive or defensive scheme, or the matchups the staff call for. Take Toledo, what was the difference there? why did we play so well?.... It was the Fans. It's a lot easier to play well in that environment. What happened with Central and NIU? Arena was crowd was small and the arena was quiet. I can guarantee the boy's weren't proud to miss so many shots. It sure wasn't because they didn't try or wanted it less.... Do I like all the coach does? Absolutely not! If you look up my first 2 comments, you can see I don't. I got no dog in the fight, I was just looking for a fun place to discuss the team and dream about good things to come. So I ask an obvious question from an outsider. Obviously missed the mark of acceptable discourse. |

Ahhhh now the quote out of context. The quote was we have forgotten more about Ball State and was referring to sports and its history. The quote had nothing to do with knowledge of basketball coaching strategies. I thought your first post was spot on but your way off on your tangent today.
