Would a win over OU save Whitford's job? I would hope not. I would hope that decision would be made now one way or the other. Honestly I don’t think they were gonna fire him regardless. I try to be an optimist, but you are probably right. I know I'll be really depressed on May 2nd if he still has a job at BSU. I keep hoping that contract he has is structured the way it is for a reason.

It just feels like they’ve got no intention of spending money to make a change and instead will continue to find any excuse to keep Whitford. Seems hopeless. Status quo.

If they didn't fire him after last season season, I don't know why they would fire him this year. I honestly think it has far more to do with incompetence, neglect, lack of vision and stupidity than it does funding. Mearns simply doesn't give a shit.

I would honestly like to understand from the "Big Boy Donors" why they continue to throw money at these products. Sitting on those celebrity thrones in front of a basketball or football crowd of a few hundred people must be an exhilarating experience.

Okay, except there is always going to be a contract to buy out.

I think if we get hammered there will be a change (may not even need that). Obviously no reason for this other than a gut feeling. We will see.

I quit giving money in 2006, and after suffering a decade of Jo Ann Gora I will never give another dime to this place.

If they cared it’d have been done by now.

I'll hold out hope for a change for this reason. Some have suggested that despite Whitford's lack of success on the court, Mearns loves his "messaging" and actions related to off-court situations: Hollywood, Moses, BLM, etc. Also that he's been given a pass because of COVID.
The reality though is that people have short memories. The Hollywood situation is a distant memory for most. Moses hasn't been around to talk about his issues and remind everyone of support Whitford provided. BLM isn't getting the notoriety it once did. And this year on the court was mostly unaffected by COVID. We were even pretty much injury free this year, weren't we?
So with all the mental health issues, and social issues and general health issues becoming more non-issues as they relate to Whitford and the basketball team, could it be that the powers that be will finally just focus more on the on-court results?
I guess what little hope I have for a change I'm pinning on that ... or maybe others are right and they just don't care.

Yeah but everyone who works within a large organization deals with that kind of stuff on an almost daily basis. I don't think Whitford distinguised himself in any particular way.

Out of 358 Div I basketball programs there are probably at least 1,000 head and assistant coaches (not to mention coaches at other levels) who would have handled those things as well or better. But apparently our administration is so afraid that they'll hire a real dick (and there is a history for that), that they might not want to take he chance.

They don’t really want someone who’ll actually DEMAND excellence and might hurt feelings.

I’m waiting on the book, “How Hiring Ronnie Changed Ball State Basketball Forever”
Risk aversion dominates the administration surrounding athletics

We finished third in home attendance behind Turdledo and OU. 3200 which I assume is padded by corporate and season ticket holders who may not use them all.
Anyway, 3rd in attendance, competitive in the league, a good freshman recruiting class, no scandals, good overall team GPA and graduation rate, made the tournament and most importantly at a school who is probably the MAC leader in diversity, inclusion, equity and hand-holding. And I think the President likes him.
Here’s a more likely reality…he’s not getting canned and if somehow we miraculously made it to the final game, win or lose, he will probably get another year added to his contract and a raise.
In other news, in case you hadn’t noticed, the world is upside down.
