Ball State last had a MAC basketball coach of the year recipient in 1989.
Only two (Yoder, Majerus) in our MAC history.
We can assume the drought will continue.

No Luke Brown on the all-freshman team? Call Bob Knight! This is an injustice. He'll tell them. He'll put them straight. Luke is the greatest MAC player ever!
Also, how did we not get anyone on the All-Defensive team?
Is Noah Farrakhan not considered a freshman? Snubbed from the All-Freshman team?

Absolutely ecstatic for Sparks. This is a young man that I, for one and having seen him play in high school, wasn't sure he could even play at the MAC level and now he's FOY. What an accomplishment.

Is Noah Farrakhan not considered a freshman? Snubbed from the All-Freshman team? Yeah my guess is transfers are not considered Freshman. Most conferences now have something called "Newcomer of the Year" as sort of a catch-all.

Done deal. Win or lose tomorrow he's back. Sobering. But, I'm not sure how much a disaster of a season we'd needed to have for them to actually move on from Whit. I'm not even sure he would have been fired if he'd gone winless. The constant hammering on the "youth" excuse plus the fact 2 of our TRUE Utes were MAC honorees, well, that sealed it. But since he's coming back, might as well get hot and win the damn MAC tourney and give us something to cheer for.

Let's be gloomy and say he's close to his ceiling in some ways. Still impressive! He can and should still get better in important ways, especially on defense and just a pup in terms of experience.

We do not and will not have the COY on our campus unless we host Kent State. But, there is a bright light ahead....
Since it's a foregone conclusion IMHO that Jim will NOT be canned, there is every chance he could hang in for two more years and become Ball State's ALL-TIME LEADER IN WINS!!! He has 130 now and the man he is chasing (aka the model for mediocrity) Jim Hinga sits atop the mountain with a 154-169 career mark. So if Jim averages just 13 wins per season next year and in 2024 he will achieve history.
Here's even better news...at that point you're sort of like Coach K, a living legend who can end his career and retire when you turn 70 from the school that gave you your break. So strap in lads, I'm here for ALL of it!!
