I would not put alot of faith in these firms they could be pushing Johnson cause he is a client.. You can't dismiss but it's early How many coaches have we hired on the direction of these services. I'm totally underwhelmed. I don't like them either

How about Ben McCollum - head coach at NW Missouri State. 3 time D-2 natty champ 300+ wins and is only 40. If hed consider a MAC gig, I'd be very intrigued.

I don't think anyone's brought up Tonagel this year have they? Usually that name pops up. 475-116 record. 28-6 this year. Strong candidate. However my gut feeling is he might wait out the Valpo job.

Could someone like Skip Mills be a candidate? Skip played overseas until 2017 and would be a young coach with Ball State ties. There is also Peyton Stovall now an assistant AD at Purdue? Both are probably stretches but they were great MAC players with strong Indiana and Ball State ties.

I’m just hoping for a coach that played the sport at a high level, won, and learned from that experience.
Not a manager picking jocks and towels off the floor.

Whitford wasn't my favorite, but the guy coached in the elite eight and sweet sixteen. Plenty of great coaches that didn't play. C'mon Man.

There are a lot of possibilities but I would list my top 3 as follows:
1. Terry Johnson- currently Assistant at Purdue with stops at Ohio State where I believe he was involved in 3 NCAA tournaments, also was at Butler under Brad Stevens. He played at Lamar, and I believe played HS in Anderson. Midwest ties and African American. Has a history of winning!
2. Matt Langel, Colgate Head Coach, 3 x NCAA’s would have been 4 without Covid with Assistant experience at Temple. Played at Penn in Ivy League, First team Ivy League.
3. Ben McCollum, D II Coach, 3 time National Champion, Northwest Missouri State, 7 time MIAA coach of the year, young only 40.
I have no inside knowledge but I would take any of these 3 in a heartbeat.

I think 2 or 3 would be fine. 1 seems to be the same old mold. Why has no one given this guy a chance.. There has to be a reason

The percentage of successful division 1 basketball coach’s thru history that did not play at least college basketball is small.
I would rather our admin not have any more room for error.
