There's an article about Sparks in the Indy Star today. He says: “So far I've heard from Pittsburgh, Virginia, Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Loyola Chicago, West Virginia, Arizona State and receiving serious interest from West Virginia, Iowa State, Loyola Chicago, Indiana so far.” That's a hell of a list. He's gone, folks. I’ll say it again in this thread that he’ll end up at Indiana bc they’re losing their two bigs and Sparks will get to stay close to home like he wanted to.

Here’s a quote from Sparks in a article in 24/7 Sports I found interesting and maybe somewhat telling;
While Sparks is in no rush to make a college decision, he does know what he's looking for in a program and what will go into his decision. “I want the school I choose to be a program who wants to win. I want to go to a coach that's going to push me to the highest level and where I'm surrounded by a bunch of guys who want to be there.”
When I read this it cause me to wonder that maybe there was some discontent on the team and this coupled with his outstanding season and lack of a coach that wasn’t developing him enough that he was thinking of transferring way longer than anyone thought?

“I want the school I choose to be a program who wants to win."
The kid had to learn that the hard way, didn't he?

I had my concerns about Whitford for sure, but how could any of us say that kid didn't develop under him? Sellers? He's just saying what he wants, not what he didn't have. Saw him out about town and that kid respected his coach. He'll tell anyone who asks. He's humble and grateful for the opportunity. Think Ish, Boogie and KJ are happy about their decision? Imagine if they'd stayed.

Kids with an internal drive to be great have developed themselves under Whitford. Sparks surprised everyone, including Whitford, by losing weight over the summer and coming in ready to play. Sparks has “it” independent of anything Whitford was giving him. Far too many of Whitfords players looked promising as freshmen only to stagnate over the rest of their time at bsu. Whit did not demand excellence, he was more interested in “the process.” Players liked him, sure, but how many of them tuned him out later in their time at bsu? How many of them never developed beyond what they were as freshmen/sophomores? The players who left were looking for something more. What they got were standards for play and behavior they didn’t get from Whit and it bit ‘‘em in the ass. Whit is a good man. He just wasn’t a good head coach.

I also took that as the money quote from the piece.

Brutal. I think this can serve as the final comment on the Whitford era.

“I want the school I choose to be a program who wants to win." The kid had to learn that the hard way, didn't he? It's so selfish when a kid just wants to be on a winner. Think of all of the character building that goes into being on a mediocre program.
