With a little luck he is wildly successful and gets hired away to a power 5 team within 3-4 years.
Nice credentials, part of successful teams everywhere he coached and good Indiana background.

It's always difficult to predict how things will go in the future, but this is a far stronger hire than Whitford.

Great hire! Solid recruiter. Great at developing guards. Competitor. Fiery. A complete 180 from our last dude. In terms of Xs & Os, I think he will be a great hire. He ran the offense for Tim Miles at Nebraska when he was there and their offense was super efficient - they even made the NIT 2 years in a row, which is huge at Nebraska. I believe he is now running the defense at UCLA, which is a very high level and suffocating defense. It'll be interesting what we run on both ends. I am excited!

Basketball in our state is personified in Michael Lewis,” Goetz said. “His outlook on the game, relationship building, recruiting network, pedigree and proactive approach to engagement with our stakeholders resides at a high level. Slam towards Whitford.. 100% no doubt

Mike's a good IU story. He went to IU forced to make changes, a high scoring HS guard, he was never going to be that in the B10, and responded to coaching to become a facilitator, found a way to play. Scrappy defender, smart with the ball. Played on good, not great IU teams. Played with some guards who made some history at IU.
If he can retain players and find a recruit or two he can make a good transition, but there are always bumps in the road when you have put together a staff from scratch and figure out how to be a HC.
One change that will help with transition is we will have some personality in the building, and much better engagement with the public. That will help if the going is tough.

Great hire! Now get on the phone with Sparks and Sellers! Can't do much of that until UCLA loses. He will deserve a chance to make his pitch.

One problem…. He went to Indiana 🤮
Hope he doesn’t bring their unjustified arrogance.
I wanted a coach with winning head coach experience.
I’m sure all the clones who went to Ball State but say “I’m a Notre Dame football fan and Indiana basketball fan” are happy.
Then again, anything was better than whitford.

Hopefully we will immediately see better roster management. Please, no more teams with seven 6'5" guys who can't shoot or dribble.
