Have the Hoosiers ever visited Ball State? I don't think we'd need dollar weenies for that game.

I just don't remember that. But looking back I see several games at BSU so I must have a block on those memories (at least that's what I'll call it for now until it's officially diagnosed otherwise).
And I'll clarify. Even though we wouldn't need to sell dollar weenies for that game ... we definitely still should.

B10 scheduling expansion may explain the disappearance of these games but generally IU athletics after Bob Knight was looking for bigger bucks and did not value in state games. Indy had an annual IU Holiday tournament and IU had a Bloomington tournament at Christmas which Coach liked both for local fans and to reduce travel despite a long standing disagreement with administration on failure to maximize revenue opportunities.

In other words Bobby scheduled opponents even IU fans wouldn't pay to see.

More a case that the administration wanted to send the team to Madison Square Garden or some other higher ticket price venue and get them into made for TV high revenue opportunities. Knight didn't want to crowd the schedule earlier in the season or travel around Finals week, and liked giving players time off during semester break.

Oh I see it had nothing to do with giving IU four easy wins just prior to the start of the Big Ten every year. Dude get real, even The Indy Star ridiculed the existence of those two back-to-back tournaments.

At the time his contract made him the AD in all matters related to basketball. He did not need a better schedule for preparation, and was happy with the schedule for the reasons above. As for the money, and pleasing the media, he always said he brought in enough money to fund IU sports did not need to do more.

That's highly questionable, considering he didn't win the BigTen in his last seven seasons, and didn't advance to the second weekend of the NCAA tourney in his final six. I think a better schedule might have helped. Although maybe beating Canisius by fifty was exactly what Bobby needed to stroke his own ego.

Perhaps you were momentarily confused there, and thought you were posting on Peegs.com? An individual referred to as "Coach" on this forum might bring to mind Rick Majerus, but that didn't make any sense in the context.
