He did not need a better schedule for preparation.......... That's highly questionable, considering he didn't win the BigTen in his last seven seasons, and didn't advance to the second weekend of the NCAA tourney in his final six. I think a better schedule might have helped. At risk of confusing the General that we are posting on Peegs, I am not so sure about schedule as a factor.
Not a lot of evidence for that, but you are right about the results, not epic teams, more about just not quite enough talent than schedule. Knight wanted to win games, but he believed you prepared in practice and practice was supposed to be harder than games in the early season.
Mike Lewis probably has some ideas on whether those teams were prepared, or in some way hurt by schedule for the tournament. That B10 was no pushover. It was usually a meat grinder, another tough game or two in December would make a difference?
Same kind of team same schedule, Mike Davis, who was no coaching savant, took what was essentially a Knight team to a FF the next year. The IU schedule didn't seem to hurt that team too much in their run.

Hi all- I am curious...have NCAA teams always allowed to have workouts together w/coach during the entire calendar year? For some reason, I thought the season/practices pretty much shut down after NCAA championship game...then picked up workouts in the summer but not in spring?

I'm pretty sure Lewis mentioned that a coach can be in contact with the team in their "Open Gyms" "X" number of hours a week. Don't know if that's correct, but that was something I thought was said in one of the earlier videos that were being put out. I don't know over what period of time that runs, either.

There is a total hour limit on players for "required" activities, with a lower limit on the time coaches can work with them.

I cant find the good easy to understand article I found before but basically they are allowed 8 hours a week with the assistants watching.. The staff then has a couple hours per week where they can be hands on. This is limited to drills

As I recall there was also a limit on how many players at one time could work with a coach, but there was a proposal to change that. It's all in the NCAA rule book, but what a pain to read...
A player can have access and use facilities on his own with little limitation. Some issues exist as to when activities become "required."

Great too see Michael Lewis cheering on the volleyball team in the championship match of the MIVA tournament. The Cardinals are UCLA bound and seeded 2nd behind Long Beach State. BSU received a bye into the semi-finals where a potential rematch with defending champion Hawaii looms!

Dear Coach Lewis,
Please get a commitment from somebody soon. We need help to stop talking about people who no longer mean anything to this program.
