My wife and I due to BSU had great years in the classroom 34 for her and 37 for me. My high school counselor advised me not to try and go to college but rather go to Delco Remy. Thank God for Ball State overlooking my pathetic high school transcript. We have supported the University over the years in various ways. Very proud to be an alum.

OK, make the case we can get back to glory years attendance which was my original point. Easier. Make the case we can get significant Indy enrollment to offset the certain losses of local attendance. Which was my point just above. Why would I give a shit about making any of your points ? OK,you obviously don't give a shit about facts you ignore in making your own points. Whatever they are.

Going back to our historic inferiority complex I wonder what percentage of our alums are embarrassed or apologetic for attending BSU. Not me! Proud as hell. No place I’d rather have gone. 100%. Everyone who has every known for more than 10 seconds knows I am a proud Ball State fan who bleeds Cardinal Red!

My motorcycle and girls were my #1 priority in high school!

Hell no I’m not embarrassed. BSU stuff on all of our cars, my kids wear BSU gear, etc.
Although my youngest hasn’t made a college choice and I suggested BSU and got a big fat no way, but that’s just based on location lol.

I’m originally from Bloomington and just about all my friends in high school went to IU. My Dad said that I needed to go away to college and learn how to grow up and learn to live on my own, which was probably the best advice he ever gave me. My HS transcripts were not great at all but BSU accepted me and I flourished! I wanted to play football as a walk-in at Ball State and wrestle but again my Dad told that I needed to focus on getting a degree which again was great advice. I’m local to the Red and White and always will be!

Just stop, I know about a hundred IU grads who drive from northern Hamilton county to every IU game. If you put an entertaining product on the floor people will show-up. You are a million excuses wrapped-up in a cocoon of bullshit. Right...A school with a B10 schedule and state wide publicity on everything they do, convincing comparison...
No doubt we can increasd attendance with a better product.
But...They built and have filled a 17000 seat arena many years ago charging a handsome ticket price. We should compare the feasibility of getting similar Indy area attendance?
Let's just ignore number of grads, income level, and all the other factors. In our best days in the 90's go back and compare our attendance to IU attendance. We did not come close to attracting Indy fans then and will not do it today
In comparing the 90's to today You want to ignore
1. Smaller population in Muncie 2. Lower income level
3. No players or coaches from the area on the team 4. Lower interest among students 5. More competing basketball for free
Those and other reasons make it awfully hard to think we'll make up those losses with attendance from Hamilton County.
Who knows what the new coach will bring to the table, but here's a pretty safe assumption. We will have the same 2500-3000 people who come regardless. If Lewis can engage with and fire up the students at even a 50% level like Majerus that could add another 500-800. There's youth sports to contend with but virtually nothing else to compete with in Muncie so if you can fire up the community (which I think he can) and bring back some decent halftime shows (which we can) we could easily get back to 6,000 if we win. Let's shoot for that and see where we land.

The only recent-ish example I can think of where there were fantastic crowds is 2008 football. Great crowds by the end of the season because of extraordinary success and national exposure due to being ranked, being undefeated and competing for the conference championship. Other seasons with even moderate success didn't result in much in the way of gains from what I could tell. Maybe 2013 had modest gains?

There is potential to sell more season tickets for a strong team with a decent schedule, I doubt the 3000 number. But, at our price, it is a bargain, and that raises the average attendance, no matter the actual butts in seats. Students will respond better for a good team, but it's pretty pathetic now, and a high average will be hard.
5,000+ to 6,000 total is a good goal, probably aspirational, not attainable. But, hell, we can certainly hit that number for the relatively few good games scheduled, where getting even good mid majors for games before conference isn't easy. In state rivals with a good team might bring fans.
I just don't see more than a few MAC games which will draw, maybe a championship game or battle of unbeaten teams earlier?

The problem in extracting attendance and dollars in Muncie is fewer people and fewer dollars, less interest generally in basketball. Our tickets are a bargain and those weekend games can draw some more families with the special pricing we use. So I agree let's try all that and shoot for some bigger numbers for promotions and sell more bargain season tickets.
I don't think 6000 will come easily though.

The majority of season ticket holders now are aging Munsonians. Attracting more locals with promotion couldn't hurt. The Indy metro area has an abundant alumni who need to become a bigger part of the environment. Promotion, which has always been weak IMO, has to be a priority. Winning will be the best tonic regardless.

That is really a hard sell, but you are right we need to try................ Yeah getting alumni to drive and watch a winning team is a real bitch to pull off. The question is how many. We'll sell some. Not 7700 total average. A hundred more from Hamilton County won't do it. What's the paid attendance number you'll put a bet on? How many season tickets are you going to buy?
