Yeah I watched the Butler deal as well. The whole event was dominated by an arrogant hubris, which is odd from a school with an acceptance rate of almost 80%. Butler is the very definition of smugness and arrogance.

BTW, maybe the Big East is too difficult for them. I've thought this as well. Butler had a great run, and the Big East has had its moments, but I thought their landing in the A-10 was the best spot for them long-term.

Just watched the Butler / Matta event. Just saying, the dude hasn't aged well. How old is he? Maybe from the stress of the profession. Doesn't look that healthy, hope that it works out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WW6EViQ_9sDude struggling to walk. How soon before the pressure of needing to win big breaks him down again?

Just saying...

Dude struggling to walk. How soon before the pressure of needing to win big breaks him down again? When you have to address it at your press conference that says a lot. Hey, I am older than him, but I kept thinking while he was talking that I hope that I don't look that bad or walk like that. Just saying... Based on what he's gone through, as I understand it from reading a couple of reports, he's doing pretty damn well. Even with the best surgeons, and there are a lot out there who aren't the best, having back surgery is a little like playing Russian roulette. If you've gone through what he has and you're in better health, be very thankful. That said, coaching is demanding. If he's got a good team around him to help him balance coaching and keeping himself healthy, maybe he can do it. If he can't maintain that balance and attention to his own health ... If he forgets what he's done to get to this point health-wise and strays from that, I'd be worried.

Apparently the pain is now more manageable. Better treatment available than when it knocked him out of coaching. Really bad then. He coached for several years with even less function and more pain and swelling. Had trouble recovering after games and practice.

He coached for several years with even less function and more pain and swelling. Had trouble recovering after games and practice. My guess is that he won't be joining in many "drills" with the team. I believe that we would all agree that there is a physical aspect to the job. Not only practice, but the travel and the day to day ups and downs. As an aside, while I was watching him address the crowd on tv, my wife walked by and asked; "Who is that?" I told her it was the new Butler coach. She said "he doesn't look new to me!" She asked "why would they hire an old guy?" I said he was 54 years old. She responded "No way, that guy has to be at least 70, maybe 80!" I will leave it there.

One vibe I got from his presser was it was almost like he was trying to talk himself into "yeah, I really do want to do this" and "yes, we really do belong in the big east, promise." Probably just me.....

Butler's under Holtmann in the BigEast were T2nd, 4th, and 2nd. Then LaVall took over and things fell off. They just fixed the major issue.
