Just announced over on Twitter - Wichita State Assistant Lou Gudino is joining Coach Lew's staff here per Jeff Goodman at Stadium Sports. Goodman also confirmed Botts and Comer are staying. Gudino is a huge hire. He was associate HC for the Shockers and has 23 years of experience as an assistant at the mid-major level (WSU, Indiana State, Mew Mexico State) and is also an Indiana native.

When Lewis, who has been a Division I assistant since 2004 with stops at Stephen F. Austin, Eastern Illinois, Butler, Nebraska and most recently UCLA, finally landed a head coaching job back in his home state of Indiana, Gudino was prioritized with his knowledge of the state and deep recruiting ties back home. “Coach Lewis and I have known each other since college and this was too good of an opportunity to turn down,” Gudino said. “He’s a superstar in this industry and he’s going to do great things.”Read more at: www.kansas.com/sports/college/wichita-state/article260122235.html#storylink=cpy

Looks like a great addition. Was making $230k at Wichita State. I wonder if our pool of dollars for our coaching staff got a nice boost? Hope he gets introduced this morning.

Lewis must be a helluva salesperson. You do something like this for the potential upside. The upside potential here is becoming BSU's head basketball coach once Lewis is successful at Ball State and gets the head job at IU. This is succession planning at it's best.

Gotta be a story behind this hire. Why is he giving up $230,000/year? Did the BOT find a pot of gold at the end of Riverside or did he say a naughty word to the teacher and get sent home?

Like I said, he is positioning himself for the BSU head coach job (what's Lewis' salary now $400,000 per year?) once Lewis gets his dream job at IU. Nothing wrong with that. It means we all (BSU fans that is) are successful with a winning BSU men's basketball program, at least under Lewis. Now did Beth make any promises to Gudino about being next in line for a lower salary than he was making? That would be the $64,000 question. And he's not giving-up $230,000; just the $30,000 per year differential between his $230,000 at Wichita vs. BSU. That's not a bad gamble for $400,000 per year in about 3 years from now.

For some people, at a certain point in life, it is no longer about the money. When you reach that point, it frees you up to do things you would LIKE to do rather than the things you feel you have to do. That really could be the case here... maybe there is no mystery about it, maybe it is exactly how he explained it. He says he genuinely wants to come here and pair up with Coach Lewis.

Well if coach wants come to Muncie I say welcome with open arms. If he leaves after 365 days I may not be so nice. I am sure that has him shakin' in his boots.

I don't think he is giving up $230,000 per year. He is receiving less, maybe $20,000 or $10,000 less. So what? Not sure of his life style, but probably after taxes he won't notice the difference. Did you read the news article. That pretty much explains the "story".

No one is going to take a job on the prospect Michael Lewis is going to IU. Ball State would have to go the the Final Four in the next three years for that to happen, and even then he wouldn't be a shoe-in.

No one is going to take a job on the prospect Michael Lewis is going to IU. Not on that alone, but in addition to working with a long time friend, close to where you grew-up for a lateral move at a salary not that much different from what you have. The risk might be job security if you thought the guy you were working for at Wichita was more secure than Lewis.
