Sounds like all charges were dropped "He left Bowling Green in 2000 to take an assistant position under Thad Matta at Butler, but in the fall of that year while on a recruiting trip in Chicago, he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute and drug possession. Under pressure from the school, Meeks, who professed his innocence from the start, resigned, although all charges were eventually dropped"

So then what was he doing that gave the impression he was both soliciting sex and had drugs on him? There’s a reason he got popped.
not saying I’m totally against him but I have questions.

Twenty-two years ago? I’m ready to forgive & move on. Jamal played for Knight which tells me he is a tough, hard-nosed individual!! He will be key in changing the culture from the soft Whitford era to the new Lewis era!

Considering charges were dropped, I don't think he really needs to answer those questions. That's kind of none of our business. As far as we know, this could have been an overzealous cop situation or something. Obviously not enough evidence to charge, and no one is under any obligation to answer questions related to something they weren't convicted of (at least to message board schlubs such as ourselves).

If he was doing drugs and banging whores, you can bet he was doing it in the tough, hard-nosed way that Coach Knight taught him to! Move on, Herman. It's already been several hours since this hiring was announced.

So then what was he doing that gave the impression he was both soliciting sex and had drugs on him? There’s a reason he got popped. not saying I’m totally against him but I have questions. There is a link a few posts back from an IU podcast that gives his side of the story. It's a 3 hour long podcast, but he explains it around the 30 minute mark. His side of the story is he purchased gasoline on the way home from a convenience store that was part of a police sting operation. It was before the gasoline pumps had credit card readers so he had to go into the convenience store to pay his bill. On the way out a policeman arrested him and claimed he had paid someone in the convenience store $10 for oral sex. Not clear where the drugs charges came in other than they seized his personal belongs including his car. Did they find them, or plant them in his car when they realized the solicitation arrest wasn't going to hold? Not sure what two charges were dropped, but even the one they thought was chargeable, he was acquitted on. Sure, it's his side of the story, but since the police realized they didn't have enough to actually go to trial on 2 counts, and they lost on the one they thought they could win on, the results speak to Meeks being innocent. Sounds like a few cops who wanted to make a bust and he matched the "type" they were looking for.

I'm sorry. Did I exceed the statute of limitations on discussing a new coaching staff hire? What is it...45 minutes? My apologies.
Note to any newer members attracted to BSU basketball by the IU angle of the new coach, and who don't like my posts and want to tell me what I should and shouldn't comment on: Go fuck yourself.

Oh I didn’t mean he needs to answer anything from me or there are specific questions he personally needs to answer now. It wouldn’t hurt to understand why he was out of coaching so long despite not being convicted of anything. Like I said, I’m not totally against his hiring, but it is somewhat curious what exactly happened to him. But whatever, he’s on Lewis’s staff now and off we go. Hope it works out excellently.

By the way, it seems that Matta and Butler reached a certain conclusion about the affair. That might say something about the plausibility of the charges versus his explanations.
Anyway, I'm not against the hire....as long as he can recruit. I certainly reserve the right to make jokes about the incident.
I wonder if maybe an alternative BSU basketball forum on Peegs.com might be a good idea for people of a certain outlook.

A little long, but true insight into someone.

Do you really think you know which candidates were available? What Mike Lewis wanted and what he might know? Irrelevant to you? What do you know that gives you the kind of insight to ignore those things you don't know?
