Reading the posts about issues over 20 years ago, has a strong resemblance to today’s cable news networks. With rare exception, relevance to what’s actually happening in our bb program (in the world) is totally missing. The difference is that legacy media (not just cable news) portrays themselves as being relevant, serious and unbiased whereas our board is very aware and open about our inability to stay on topic.

I think that a general inferiority complex existed when we were BSTC because of the ingrained disrespect given to teachers. "Those who can do those who can't teach". As far as IU is concerned we were not on their radar until we became real threat to them in football and beat their ass. Most of their wrath has been directed at Purdue and traditionally ours toward Butler who always looked at us as the poor bastard stepchild of the State. I would like to think that we are over any inferiority thoughts by now as we are, as some have said on this Board, that we are well known, recognized and respected nationally. I welcome IU fans who want to come and support initially coach Lewis and then our team that will be playing the game the right way

From what I've read, the Toledo Blade has the best description of what happened to Meeks. On the Toledo Blade, the article is behind a pay wall, but the article linked by Steve allowed access to the article avoiding the pay wall. I think it's worth reading that description, so here it is:
"But while on a recruiting visit to Chicago early in the fall of that year, Meeks, who holds a degree in criminal justice from Indiana, saw his world turn into a nightmare episode of Cops.
While buying gas at a convenience store, Meeks, well over-dressed for the neighborhood in his sport coat and dress slacks, was approached by a woman who made small talk, and then left. Two blocks down the street, police yanked Meeks from his car, and with guns drawn, accused him of soliciting prostitution and possessing marijuana.
Butler demanded that he resign or be fired. Meeks, who professed his innocence from the start, resigned to protect the school. The charges against him were soon dropped after prosecutors realized Meeks had been inadvertently pulled into a bungled sting operation."
IMHO, this could happen to any of us.

Marijuana? It was only marijuana? Lol. Y’all got your panties in a knot over an unsubstantiated charge of…..having a joint.
I rest my case.
As far as canceling him - maybe a poor choice of words, but read sweeps previous posts about Meeks here. Over the top hand wringing about…..a 22 year old dropped charge of…..marijuana possession.

That is nowhere close to the story I heard from a Butler coaching staff member at the time it happened. I am not going to post anything else about it, but I would believe my source to be accurate.

So, he resigned to protect the school that was demanding he resign or be fired for something he was innocent of. Yes, of course. Got it.
Well case closed, I guess. But let me take a wild, out of the blue guess as to who the Toledo Blade's source was.

All charges were dropped and it was 22 years ago. He has been back in coaching since the incident. Not sure why this is a big deal for some of you. I say give him a chance.

Perhaps you might have noticed that things don't necessarily have to be a "big deal" to be discussed on this board. They just have to have some half-way interesting or amusing feature about them. Which this matter does. Anyone who has been around this board for any length of time at all has seen much more trivial things discussed at much greater length.
Maybe now YOU can explain to ME why this matter should be considered as off-limits, under wraps or verboten for mention.

Think I will set some sort of alarm for myself to make $10 blowjob jokes at least once a week for the indefinite future. Just as a special service to those who want to tell us what we should and shouldn't be discussing.

I just don’t care about it.

Can we move onto something else? How about recruiting expectations? Style of play? Zone? Press? What kind of style has most influenced Lewis and this staff?

Somebody wake me up when something worth talking about happens ... like maybe we get a commitment from a player.

What kind of style has most influenced Lewis and this staff? Judging by Lewis's press conference suit I would say late 80's post punk.
