Paddock earned his shot. He’s a leader and he throws a good ball. He’s a vet. But, you never know what fall camp will bring.

Or we dont have the talent we hoped we had. From all accounts, they all have been very good. Unless they just aren't ready for the college game. Interesting to see what happens. Certainly hope so, but I’ve been disappointed after hearing good things from camp before.

Paddock isn’t leading you to a winning season because he’s limited . Go with a young guy and build for the future.

Andy mentioned going home for yard work and beer so he might be out for the night I'll tell you my thoughts and he can fill in the fine details. First off we had so many guys not dressed I'm not sure we could have played a real game. So it was 3 7v7 sessions and a bunch of drills. So it's hard to really say anything. Paddock looked ok but nothing special. Blazek was second string he wants to go deep alot and threw 2 picks doing so Cobb looked like a freshman Kelly spent the day and WR
WRS Tyler was out there some caught a couple. Kelly was out there alot he got open for a would be Td but a db made a nice play. He was getting alot of coaching from vic hall it seems like we are going to see him put there sooner than later. There was a magwood sighting he seems healthy had the offensive play of the day. Dean Tate caught alot of balls. Jackson was not dressed. WR position has alot of Question marks
Running Backs were loaded Steele was not dressed Evans is in a boot again but Barfield looked really good, Marcus, rayquan lee and tge refresh from Chicago made plays
Oline well they all appear to be injured
DLINE can't tell in 7v7
Lbs same it's hard to get a feel in 7v7
Secondary lots of guys made plays oddly enough that may have been a bright spot Thai Baldwin and Chayce Bishop got alot of reps if your looking for sleepers
I gotta be honest based on today we've got alot of holes and we're going to need some guys to step up or more transfers to come in. For those expecting 8 9 wins you might want to back down those expectations down a bit. It's really early and alot of things can change between now and the season but instead of getting questions answered I left feeling like I knew less than when I got there

I’m not sure how you can take anything away from today. Sounds like half the team wasn’t participating.

I’m not sure how you can take anything away from today. Sounds like half the team wasn’t participating. like I said it's early but to answer your question. We have to replace 30 players 18 of which were starters on last year's spring depth chart and as we stand right now the players and depth are not there 2018 and 2019 recruiting classes were duds and barely got any production out of them so were left with guys who have not played meaningful yet. Our o line was a wreck last year and six months later it's worse. Our D line got no pressure last year so there are also questions marks there. Our Wrs are Tyler and Jackson then who a qb project and magwood who has never stayed healthy after that it's scary. Linebackers lots of questions there as well. I'm not throwing in the towel by any means but like I said we are going to need to add some guys and have some people really step up.

I agree that the outlook for this year doesn't look great, or that there are a lot of questions. I don't think many expect us to win 8 or 9. My prediction is another 6 win season, and that might be optimistic. I feel like I always hear about how bad we look in the spring though. The offense is always behind the defense at this point. That's why I don't take much away from today especially with all the absences.

Sometimes we will have reload the player roster. That usually takes a season or two.

IMHO we will be lucky to win more than 2 or 3 games this coming season.

It’s good we’ll be a lot younger and have a bunch of new blood injected next fall. It’s bad we’ll be a lot younger and have a bunch of new blood next fall.
Having a rebuilding year after a 6-7 season that ended with an embarrassing loss in a bowl doesn’t sound all that great, but no way around it, we’re going to be in a rebuilding year and it’s gonna be rough. The shortcomings of the coaching staff showed up again last year after the fantasy year of 2020 and that most likely won’t change next season. We are devoid of talent and depth at WR to the extent we’re toying with putting our ballyhooed Qb recruit there. Not sure the oline will be impactful. So many injuries throughout the roster. Not promising.

Over the summer injuries heal, linemen work out and their bodies respond and get bigger, players that are good athletes are assigned new positions and flourish. The staff is set and I do not see a rash of transfers. We will be ok. Not outstanding but on the way with a solid core and base to build upon. At a place like Ball State it will be hard to have a bowl contending team EVERY season. This may be one of those years.

Oh, yeah ... recap of the final spring practice. Nothing to report here ....
Seriously though, hard to tell with only 7v7 and 1 on 1s to look at. Just a normal practice with fans in attendance. Some guys looked good, but it is hard to judge - for instance - AJ blew up a WR on a comeback route in a 1 on 1 ... and looked really good .... until you realize he was defending Cam Gillentine ... So, really hard to tell. Jordan Riley Scott had a nice pick over the middle. Our WRs need help. Our DBs looked good .... hard to tell really
