Thought this deserved its own thread. Per Verbal Commits website, Luke Brown entered the transfer portal this morning. Anyone with any insight?

Let's see: The kid can never live up to the hype, especially in his own backyard? He and Lewis don't see eye to eye? He's just never gonna play for us? Girl/TikTok? NIL?
Luke, we hardly knew ye.

I suspect he sees the writing on the wall with regards to his skill level

He must see himself coming off the bench as a Sophomore playing 10-15 minutes per game!! Whether on the ball or off the ball he may see himself as the 4th guard!

How can this be? He was our best player... best shooter, best defender. Of course, I heard that Kentucky was picking up a marquee player. It must be Luke. Yup, yup...

Smell ya later Luke. Sorry it didn’t work out here but I was not impressed with his play this past year.

The pig farm NIL must not have paid well enough...
In all seriousness, I hope he finds a good lower division fit where he can go back to being a big fish in a small pond. He seems like a good kid, but just out of his depth a bit, and/or believing his press a bit too much in thinking he should be further along on the depth chart than he should be based on the skills/experience (IMHO... I may be totally wrong here, or I may be totally skewed based on my distaste of his fan club). I welcome the exit of the distraction personally. It would be very, very hard for him to meet the hype here locally. Much better for him to be somewhere else with a fresh slate and not have those expectations (again IMHO). Of course, others (Ray, Bonzi, Chandler) met the hype, but several others haven't. If he doesn't leave, I certainly welcome him and hope it works out, but if he goes, he goes.

Did he come here purely for The TikTok girl? Ready to move on now that he's over her?

Lewis might prefer to have ONE main PG play the majority of the minutes. Brown would not fit that profile as a starter. He'd probably be a 10 minute a game back up and he's not going to accept that. he came in expecting to play big minutes and I'm sure expects that to be the case next year. It may have become very apparent based on the workout period the team had with Lewis that Brown just wasn't going to have the role that he wants.
So, if Brown leaves, does THAT count as the one time portal freebie? Or, did he use that up with the "hardship" immediate eligibility he got this past season? (which was bungled by pretty much everyone involved)

I suspect he sees the writing on the wall with regards to his skill level At this point in the process, I would certainly think he and the new coach know EXACTLY where they each stand with respect to next year. And this resulted in the decision. I am guessing Lewis has met with every player and their family. Just my opinion.

What that is and what he thinks it is surely is a good question.
No way to know what he is thinking his best fit is, he was a smaller version of Pete Maravich in small school HS basketball, and had the ball all the time.

Unfortunately, the only players and family members Lewis has met with since he had been here are the portal players that have returned. Maybe he just hasn’t had the time yet, but you would think a new coach would have made that a first priority. Lewis will still do a great job at BSU, he will just have to do it without the 3rd leading school in Indiana high school basketball history.

I was thinking of "the big fish in a small pond" that was mentioned. Maurice Knight who was a star on the Frankton championship team played for Anderson University this past year and was a really "Big fish".

I believe there is a rule that says you have to be in the transfer portal by May 1st. If not and then you transfer, you have to set out a year. It doesn’t mean he is necessarily transferring, but he is just keeping all of his options open.
