Let's get this thread going Two failed coaches on a very short list there? That’s the best Evansville can do? Of course, that job may not be very attractive given it’s May 10 and they have no players. What would really piss me off is if Whitford got hired and several of our guys suddenly decided to follow him down there.

Word around Evansville is that everyone knew the Lickliter (and likely staff) firing was coming back in late February/early March - which is why all but 4 scholarship UE players had already transferred out prior to 5/1. The top assistant coach had likewise already departed, but the other 2 assistants had not and were fired alongside Lickliter. Since the school basically planned to terminate the AD and the MBB Coach, they wanted a new (as of 4/21) AD to make the hire. I'm sure since Lickliter had a year or so left on contract, there were likely some negotiations on payouts before something could be announced.
While I guess anything is possible, I'd be surprised if Whitford is in the running at Evansville, as his personality is an awful lot (dull) like Lickliter was. I expect Whitford would be far behind Lavall Jordan if Jordan is in the mix. Evansville natives David Ragland (Butler Asst) and Calbert Cheaney likely to be mentioned as popular candidates. Given the threat that now Southern Indiana becomes as they, pumping out 3x the alumni as UE for the last decade, transition to D-1 in the same medium-sized town with a brand new on-campus arena, The Aces would likely be looking for someone who can demonstrate an ability for a quick turnaround and heavy community engagement with a big personality so as the fence straddlers don't align with USI instead of UE.

So whitfords odds according to hoopdirt are worse than 55/1 ton land the Evansville job. That’s roughly the same as our chances of winning the max tourney during COVID year of 2020 so if you talk to whitford or the star press, they probably do think his hiring is a near certainty….

I tried to talk about it on the mafia page but the deleted it lol If I were Luke I'd cut any ties with this David Weddell character. The guy is a convicted felon (fraud) with some other stuff on his rap sheet. He avoided a 4 year prison sentence by paying restitution. This dude is shady AF, and if Lewis found out about him, may be why Luke left the team. "David D. Weddell, 58, 403 W. Main St., Hartford City, in April pleaded guilty to three counts each of forgery and tampering with records, and one count of theft by deception, in a court in Carroll County, Ohio, about 80 miles southeast of Cleveland. The Blackford County man had been indicted last year by a Carroll County grand jury, accused of misusing a $100,000 grant after signing a 2012 contract calling for his company, Cue Band LLC, to provide that county with Internet broadband service. The grant — from Ohio’s Appalachian Development Program — was to be used to help pay for part of the project, which was to have been completed by June 2013. Authorities said the Internet service was never provided, although Weddell’s company had withdrawn all of the grant money by early 2013. At a May 4 sentencing hearing, Carroll County Judge Richard Reinbold sentenced the Hartford City man to four years in prison, and imposed a $35,000 fine. However, both the prison sentence and fine were suspended provided Weddell pay $20,986 in restitution, as specified in a plea bargain. Weddell was convicted of driving while suspended in Huntington County in 2013 and 2007. In 2011, he was charged with auto theft in Rush County, but that case was later dismissed." link

I don't know if Luke has any kind of friendship with Weddell, but it does seem a little "stalker-y"... But I'd bet money that this guy is trying to use Luke's name for his own benefit somehow, somewhere.

But I'd bet money that this guy is trying to use Luke's name for his own benefit somehow, somewhere. I kinda doubt Luke is all that close to that guy, and I totally agree that Weddle is probably hoping to keep his wagon hitched to Brown to profit somehow, like he's his street agent and expects a stake in an NIL or something. Or thinks Luke will be in the NBA one day and will "get some." All ridiculous, of course. The worship is so over the top it can't be believed as just being a fan of a local kid.
