Of course, not directly Ball State related, however, in a "slow" information period, here's a curious bit of information; the new AD at Evansville fired the Lickliter staff on Thursday. Somewhat bold move considering he's (new AD) been on the job only a month or so. It might be a little tricky finding a good candidate at this late a period (maybe LaVall Jordan or Jim Whitford (doubtful): hoopdirt.com/evansville-fires-lickliter/

Waiting this long to fire Lickliter is going to make it very difficult for his staff to get a position at a new university. Additionally this is going to create a real obstacle for any player who wishes to transfer as it is already passed the May 1 deadline for one time transfers to be eligible next season.

They just signed a kid in the portal two days ago. At this point they should have just given Lickliter another year. It's not like he inherited a good situation to begin with.

Crean is a name I heard as a possible replacement. I sure hope that was a joke.

He finished 10th/5th/10th in the MVC with a .188 winning % against his conf peers. Awkward timing obviously, but all in all probably better than keeping a failing coach around another year. The right coaching hire could potentially recruit better than Ickliter THIS YEAR still in the new environment. It's just apparently not a very high bar to clear.
It's interesting to consider the ups and downs of individual coaches. Lickliter was great at Butler, but since has had one winning conf season (at Marian) in nine years at three different schools. My theory is that he got a big pay day at Iowa and then lost enthusiasm for the big pain in the ass that is recruiting.

Obviously, his recent results have not been good. The timing is not real fair to those players that decided to stay & those recruits who have committed to next year. As I’ve shared before, I’ve know Todd for nearly 50 years. He’s a damn good man!! I learned a great deal from him back in the day!

The outgoing AD didn't have the guts to pull the trigger on the way out and so now you've got a situation that's incredibly unfair to everyone involved.

I looked at the NCAA manual of regulations to see how the deadline works. (Don't do it unless you are a glutton for punishment)
sweeps post is on the money. The kids in the program get an extension of the deadline to enter the portal until July 1. If between May 1 and July 1, a coaching change is made or a scholarship is dropped (which can be done until July 1) then there is an extended deadline..
They are not completely screwed, but the new coach is.
This is really hard on the new coach, he won't know who is on his roster or how many scholarships he has until then...

Surely that is a typo? It is rare isn't it. I did do my homework before making such a rash claim.

I am a lawyer by training and practice, so I can stomach it a little better. It's not a great piece of legal drafting, though. The real pain is that you have to read it thne look for the parts somewhere else which may be exceptions to the rule.

I am not a lawyer but your right it's like trying to find a corner to piss in inside a round barn. I took a standardized compliance test last night just to see where I stood on the rules. I passed so I guess I'm doing OK lol. It's odd what I find fun
