His father is Derrick Wesley, Ball State men's basketball player from 1984 to 1988. Inducted into the Ball State Hall of Fame in 1998. ballstatesports.com/honors/hall-of-fame/derrick-wesley/200Amazing how we never are able to recruit the offspring of our former standout players.

Jake LaRavia was drafted 19th overall and will be joining Bane with the Memphis Grizzles IU,PU,BSU and most others missed on him initially, and even had a second chance when he reopened recruiting. Then when proven, after ISU and in transfer mode, he was missed. Not a school in the state which couldn't have used him. He would have been perfect here.

Wow, ND or BSU? Which would you have taken? You couldn't have paid me to go to ND. Grew-up about 30 miles from that place and detest it. The bigger picture is you would think where your father played basketball and starred would get you some loyalty. But in the case of Bill Gillis, Dan Palombizio, and Derrick Wesley, it didn't buy us even consideration. Of course all 3 cases happened under Whitford which I think had a large part in it.

I'm amazed we were able to recruit anyone with our former coach.

How much consideration they gave we have no idea. But, none of those players should have given us more serious consideration considering the alternatives they had.

Agree. Doubt that we would have been considered, at least for very long.

Actually Dan Palombizio's kid wasn't that good. His play was MAC level at best. He was only about 6' 6" (Dan was 6' 8") The two years he played at Oakland College he average 2.34 PPG (freshman year) and 2.67 PPG (sophomore year). He then transferred to Bellarmine where he averaged 1.67 PPG (junior year) and 3.42 PPG (senior year). I think he would have fit in with Whitford.
