Nice run. Was hoping to go to the Grand Canyon matches but have a medical procedure to deal with. A guy who played v-ball for BSU lives in our retirement community, Rick Ervin. He's heading up to watch with another guy who's son played for Cal Northridge.

What did the MIVA look like 40 years ago?
I remember teams like Kellogg Community College, George Williams. Didn't Purdue, Cincinnati, Toledo and BG try to start up programs?

Purdue, Cincinnati, and BG did try to start up. I'm not sure about Toledo. The only two original members are of course BSU and OSU

With the popularity of women's volleyball, I would blame title IV for holding down the growth of men's VB in college. Maybe blame it on bball that competes for similar style athletes......yet, I ramble, so I'll stop.

Title IX helped the women, but men's VB has not ever been that big across the country. I don't see the men's game getting much national footprint if the women had not come along. Very much a West Coast thing long before the women's game took off.
It surely would not be much here without Don Shondell.

Don and UCLA Coach Dwight Scales put the sport on the radar screen no doubt - just has never become a huge blip but I am glad we have it at BSU!
