I’d switch to that up tempo set and never leave it. WMU had no answer

Steele admits he needs to learn to be more patient and let holes develop, but he’s just not wired that way. He just hits up into the line so it’s always going to a bunch of hard two yard runs for him with the occasional break through run. That kind of style is going to get him beat down over time. He’s a horse but the body can only take too much. The other problem with his between the tackles power running is he can’t really run wide so it makes our offense heavily between the tackles and we don’t spread defenses out. Wmu had 8 or 9 in the box all game long because they knew there was zero threat of us running wide. None of the backs we use are speed backs who can get to the boundary. We just too damned one dimensional and predictable. Neu/lynch have got to come up with a better mix of players and plays. Bingo. Completely agree. No way he holds up over a season or a career. He’s going to get beat down like Huntley did and Hall did, especially because they are waiting in the box for him. No excuse for only giving a 6th year player four carries like they did Jones (what did you bring him back for?) or not put Pemberton in until the fourth quarter. They really only play running back. They do have speed backs and change of pace guys but don’t play them or develop them. Nor do they even try to incorporate the tight ends (Hunt and Koziol can catch) into the passing game on a consistent basis which can help widen the field and get the defense out of 8 or 9 in the box. At some point, you have to diversify your offense rather than try to ride one guy to glory but I don’t think Neu/Lynch know any other way.

I started watching after you sent this! They are tough and the fun-belt is having a monster day!! Reminds me of how the MAC used to have monster days!! A must win if we want any chance of a bowl game (to likely play another sun belt team) So true! The MAC is no better than an average FCS conference!!! Historically, the Sagarin ratings would say that the median MAC rated team has been better than the median team in every one of the 14 FCS Conferences. The ratings would also indicate that historically 4 or 5 of the top 10 FCS+MAC teams would be MAC teams. Therefore I think your statement above is very incorrect despite the fact that schools in BSU's range, much less BG or Akron, do trail a bunch of FCS teams. However as 000mph suggests - if the MAC were to drop to FCS-level, it's likely the budgets would also drop for MAC football and very likely the MAC schools would not be able to recruit as well as they do now. So a five-ten year projection might be that the MAC would generally land as one of the top 3 or 4 FCS conferences and that MAC schools would still have multiple teams in the FCS top 25 but the conference on the whole would not be a dominant presence. There is certainly far more fan support and positive energy levels at some of the Big Sky, Southern, and Missouri Valley schools than most MAC programs have as FBS.

If MAC and even a few other G5 moved down we'd see something like a 32 team tournament post season. Already some talk in FCS of expansion. Might see some existing Bowl games incorporated into that framework. Would give those games some meaning.
