I don't know if this guy can coach or not, but I love the change in personalities that he has over Whitford.
I understand that Lewis was out roaming around the parking lots, stopping by and chatting with some of the tailgating folks, Saturday before the football game.
Can't quite picture Whitford ever doing something like that.

Whitford did that. At least in the Gold Lot. Not recently, but at the start of his time here he did. He appeared at several of my tailgate parties.

Still a good point.
Whitford did much better in small groups.
But any way you cut it, as an introvert, he really did not enjoy and seek attention for himself, and was very limited in outreach on any kind of scale, unable to project energy and reach out.

Was not aware of that. Had never heard anyone say anything along those lines.
Just heard a couple of really positive comments about Lewis coming by where they were, in the Gold Lot, and conversing a bit.
I thought it was pretty neat.

Yes. Early on he did work through the crowd before football games.

Whitford did not click on all fires as a promoter of the program.

Whitford did not click on all fires as a promoter of the program. Were there any fires in which Whitford did click?

I agree Whitford never helped himself as a promoter of all things basketball in Muncie. I have a sneaking feeling we may miss Beth more than many think.

A few words on the coaching we could see in Muncie. Lewis is HUGE question mark in my mind, keeping that in my thoughts there are some things I would like to see this upcoming season. 1. Shot selection...during the course of this year if I see players ''jacking up'' 3 pointers from nowhere and if their collective asses do not hit the bench before their feet hit the floor we will not succeed. 2. Help side defense. We have to help our teammates out by sagging from the weak side, take a charge, and not give easy inside shots. Block out and rebound. 3. Keeping 1. in mind, we have to teach these young men that a well set pick is more important than an shot made. A well coached team on setting meaningful picks will score more than a team that does not try. Pick, pass, catch and shoot. Sums up a well designed offense in many cases. 4...Coach Lewis discipline is a trait that many coaches are afraid to exercise over their players. Do not to be one of their friends. Be a coach in the truest meaning of the word. The insane cannot run the assylum. Let them know what the rules are from the start. If they are violated make sure they know the punishment will be swift and sure. In the long run this attitude will serve you and your players well. I believe if you follow this line of thinking your former players will be cheering you on long after they graduate...Thanks for letting me ''vent''.

I agree screening and learning to use screens away from the ball could be a big key. Make that a priority in half court.
But, in today's game, I imagine we'll see quite a few 3's, many on a secondary break, before the defense sets up, so I'm not so quick to condemn players taking more 3's than old school BB. Some likely should have a green light.
I'll agree and be disappointed if we don't do more of the first than we've seen.

My point is IF you can hit the three then take it, if you cannot then DO NOT jack it up...ie.SHOT SELECTION is lacking in today's college game.

Interestingly, and contrary to what I thought I would find, Whitford's teams hit a higher percentage of threes compared to conference opponents each of the last four years. The problems were elsewhere.

Wow, that is contrary to what I would have thought, too.
Maybe many of the "shots" that we just threw up right before the shot clock expired were from inside the arch.
I don't know, but that stat sure surprises me.
