For example, below we get an idea of the crowd drawn by the latest bowl game MACTION!

Truth is no cares about any bowl game that happens before Jan 1st except die hards and gamblers I was surprised at how empty it was. Louisville normally travels pretty well. Was amazed at their crowd at last night’s NCAA womens v-ball championship. Texas won in straight sets.

Below is a study about the impact football has on universities. BSU appears to be part of or a consideration for this study (a map provided shows most of FBS). “With that being said however, the regressions do also show that the “football factor” has an impact – and in some cases, it has a quite significant impact – on the financial performance of college athletics departments, specifically the four college athletics financial performance variables (Donor Contributions, Corporate Sponsorships, Ticket Sales, and Profit). In examining the findings in regard to the eight-football performance related variables, the researchers will show how the results of the regressions support the fact that exciting – and winning – football does matter in terms of producing better financial outcomes for college athletic programs overall.” thesportjournal.org/article/college-footballs-bottom-line-impact-exploring-the-relationship-of-football-performance-on-athletic-finances-for-division-i-institutions-today/

How much as Indiana subsidized athletic capital investments across BSU, versus donors? How much has athletic capital donors given to other non-athletic capital campaigns. Further, what impact would result (donations, university marketing and general presence) in BSU saying “well, we’re not good enough to compete at the highest level, let’s drop to FCS)? Don’t know.

But the costs of football vastly outweigh these revenues, and the total football financial picture is a complete disaster, so the obvious idea is that the cost reduction would vastly outweigh the revenue reductions.

When you are operating what basically amounts to a scam, you often have to resort to blatant dishonesty to attempt to cover it up.

It's hard to care about bowl games when the best players don't seem to care. I used to love bowl season, but now with all the best players opting out it has little relevance.

Unless the Bahamas Bowl is different they require each school to buy x number of tickets. Then the announced attendance is the number of sold tickets. This is one of the requirements forcing college football teams to pay to play on ESPN. It is a scam. they say they get a national audience in reality other than the 2 schools sports obessed alumni no one watches it.

If BSU is part of the 101, you can bet the bulk of the data is from bigger schools with large alumni bases who do not run huge operating deficits.
That winning influences financial well being is kind of a tautology if you can increase attendance and revenues from game day as well as mobilize that large alumni base.
THis study has very little relevance to the situation we are in as members of a bottom feeding conference ranked in at best the bottom of the 100 programs in performance. Except it would predict we find a negative influence of being a loser...Duh.
