They allegedly offered him a pretty sweet deal. Hope he does well out there. He'll be playing against bigger, faster dudes, but, he should have a better Oline to run behind too. Thankfully this ends whatever attempts we were making to bid against UCLA and we can move on with the RB room we have now. With Cooper and Spegal plus the young guys we should be fine. Really it comes down to can Lynch use them to the best of their abilities. Defenses in that conference are going to have a hard time with him for sure-Spegal is a walk-on not a scholarship player-think we will see thunder and lightning from our run game this year and more versatility in general. At least I hope so.

Looks like he belongs on the beach. Good luck to him. He's got to be figuring he'll be banging high quality California babes right and left out there. That's certainly what I would have been thinking if I were him at that age, with his looks and notoriety.

Now that its over no sense to not talk freely. Thus was pretty much a done deal about a month ago. Kelly was in Muncie for a what seems like a signing party at that time the rumored deal was 100k and a mercedes for mom By the time California takes their tax bite out of that, he'll have 10 bucks and change. Seriously though, he might see half of that. Not a great deal.

He'll have to pay the tax on mom's Mercedes. I've never bought a Merc, but I imagine it's north of 50K, depending on the model. So let's say a total of 150K taxable. 9.3% state tax rate, federal tax about 30K (15,213 plus 24% of anything over 89,075), plus county taxes. 150,000 x .093 = 13,950 13,950 + 30,000 = 43,950 Can't find county tax info. But being LA, I'd assume no less than 2000. So he might clear $54,000. Unless he has it paid later, then he can defer the taxes... He better consult an accountant.

An agent has accounting and legal services. Mercedes may be a lease, to spread the impact, and perhaps the cash in installments. Don't forget the cut an agent gets... In a former life and much different economic environment I had a client in that business but that was only pro athletes and Kentucky basketball recruits as I recall, there are complications here everyone is still working out.

Sherman and OOhmh are clearly accountants that should step in and help, as they are always bitching about financial considerations of MACTION. Clearly no one else on this board who is here to support the student athletes of Ball U give a damn about their bean crunching mentality.

You underestimate the impact.
Good point that sports fans are at times irrational including college boosters and pro owners.

Is the $100k for one year? Could go up or down 2nd year?

Should've gone to Florida.
A player with a pet gator and playing for the Florida Gators? Instant NIL gold in the Sunshine State. Plus no state income tax to worry about.

There is no glamour in Hollywood, Florida but their is in California. Besides he may want to be an actor or TV celebrity.
