Next weekend will be arguably the toughest tourney, the Chanticleer Classic.
We play Ole' Miss on Friday, two against Cincinnati on Saturday, then Coastal Carolina on Sunday. Baseball America has Coastal Carolina ranked 23 and Ole' Miss ranked 24. IU's old pitching coach is the head coach at Cincinnati (and a Miami alum), and he'll have some motivation to beat Ball State. We recruit many of the same players.

Lose 7-3
Play 2 tomorrow. A little warmer, less wind. Ugh, every year the weather turns cold when the baseball and golf teams come down.

For the season (so far), BSU is batting .246 vs. opponents .312. SO/BB ratio is 1.8:1 (would love to see 2.5:1 or better). Seven wild pitches (9 games), along with 10 HBP. Team ERA of 4.74 (under 4 would be great).
While pitching is off (should gel soon, early season), our hitting is off. Looks like hit balls are not finding openings, and we a 25% SO rate.

Cards lose 12-5 to Coastal Carolina. I've been fortunate to watch BSU baseball spring outings for the last 4 years and...... Let me start by confirming that BSU pitching staff is way off this year. Granted, Mississippi and Coastal appear to be top 25 teams nationally but, that being said, we gave up 18 hits today. It seemed that every pitcher brought in came on with a very good start and then were giving up solid hits or solid hit balls batter after batter. The Cards were hitting the ball solid game after game but seemed to be hitting it right at the opposition. We appear to have a couple of good hitters for average in Stayton, Spaulding and Call. It falls off from there. Put in 11 hits today but 7 of them came in the first 3 or 4 innings. I'm not sure how this team will fare in the MAC but we've been thru 12 games at 5-7 and this should give us a pretty good indication of where we are. Games next week at Savannah State and LSU. I'm hoping the pitching can start coming together. We have pretty good closers, but we can't stay with the other teams to make these guys effective. Attachments:
