Disappointed but not surprised. As far as the most talented team, time will tell, but I am not that pessimistic.

So, how do we compare to other MAC schools relative to numbers in the portal?

We are going to find out soon if Lewis can recruit. He now has the scholarships available. He is going shopping in the portal. At least the next couple of months are going to be interesting. As far as Sparks, I really am not surprised. NIL and the portal has turned college basketball into the Wild West. No need to bitch about it, we have to take advantage as there is going to be plenty of talented players available that can help us. Lewis is now on the clock.

I appreciate Payton Sparks for all his contributions to BSU basketball! Looks to me like he is a fine individual and wish him much success! I think we will soon find out if Lewis is capable of recruitting talent to build the program. Party is over and time to get down and dirty inside the portal. This is the time we are in where you can't count on a recruit for 4 years. A good coach must have the skils to flex and still be able to recruit and produce good results. We will find out.

It's hard to care about college sports anymore with the transfer portal. You basically have no chance of keeping your best players as a mid-major. Completely different teams every year.

In one man's opinion, no one player regardless how good he is, is better/bigger than the program. He can kick rocks.

The transfer portal and NIL are designed first and foremost to benefit the Power 5 schools. Coaching staff at mid-majors like Ball State will develop and train up kids only to see their star players snatched up by the big schools. No loyalty to your coaches, team mates and school. Just chasing that NIL $. If anyone tells you these policies were created for the student athlete they’re simply virtue signaling and blowing hot air
Yeah schools like Ball State can take advantage of the portal but the “exchange rate” is unbalanced: mid-major star players transfer to the bigs while reserves and bench warmers transfer “down”

Yes, this new NIL/transfer situation is a shameful, evil travesty.
I mean...just imagine...a system where good performers move up and weaker performers move down! Total craziness!!! And then you have people who seem to prefer more money to less money!!! It's totally NUTS!!!!!
I think the players should follow the example that the coaches and administrators have always set in the NCAA. As you all know, coaches and administrators in the NCAA have historically shown total loyalty to their schools and have completely ignored offers of increases salary and higher profile jobs. So, when coaches and administrators complain about NIL, we should take them very seriously. How have the players been allowed to engage in such out of control behavior?!?! What we need is for a bunch of NCAA bureaucrats to control the situation...them being all-wise and utterly incorruptible.

I think maybe the sad thing here is that as students no longer look at their commitment as being for 4 years, schools will do the same.
So those scholarships, which have always been 1-year grants, eventually won't be renewed so automatically. A kid like Hendriks, who you might think would already be in the portal but apparently isn't, won't have the option of staying at a school just because he likes it there and feels like he's getting a good education. He'll be cut loose to find his way elsewhere.
Schools will be signing kids every year that they don't seem to have roster room for. Cutthroat all the way around.

Ah yes, since the coaches and NCAA admins have corrupted college athletics for their own greed and self-aggrandizement let’s allow that corruption to flow down to the “student-athlete” rather than try to reform the system as it is. After all, concepts like amateurism, loyalty to something larger than self and self discipline are so old fashioned in our “gotta get mine” world. Since we’re all about good performers getting theirs, why not allow the smart students to openly sell answers to the test to the less gifted? No moral qualms about that right? Students preferring more money to less is a good thing and this should be allowed to operate in a moral vacuum right?

Technology developed on college campuses could be sold directly to the Chinese Communist Party. Or wait, that's already happening. www.justice.gov/opa/pr/harvard-university-professor-and-two-chinese-nationals-charged-three-separate-china-relatedOr, we could let our politicians accept "seed money" from the CCP in exchange for undisclosed services. They could then distribute the cash to family members via third parties. Or wait, that's also already happening too.

Apparently he's an incredible student so, just like Bumbalouhh, he should look at the academic + athletic options. A lot more upside for him athletically. What's wrong with the Harvard of Delaware County?

Really put a damper on looking forward to next years team. Congressional oversight committees should be looking into the NCAA and the corruption it has fostered while prattling on about the "student athlete" rather than Hunter Biden's laptop or the Jan. 6th committee. Might also take a further look into the NRA and the corruption of the leaders of that organization. About time for Oversight committees to get serious. Both parties have used these committees to stik it to the other party.
