The two teams with the oldest rivalry in college volleyball will square off Saturday night at 7:00 in Worthen Arena when 2023 MIVA champions Ball State and Ohio State battle for the MIVA automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. This is a “dream match” that deserves a record crowd! The showdown between the two teams whose rivalry began in 1961, will be one for the ages! Worthen Arena will be electric and will be rocking all night! BSU has won 10 of 11 with the only loss being a 3-2 heartbreaker at Ohio State. The Buckeyes have won 11 in a row including a 3-2 road win over then #1 Penn State. The stage is set for Saturday night! “The Buck Stops Here!”

Does your marketing budget get covered out of Men's VB funds, or Women's VB funds, or both. Just checking.

The last time Ball State met Ohio State in the MIVA championship match was all the way back in 2009 with the Buckeyes winning and advancing to the NCAA Final 4. That match took place Ohio State’s historic St John Arena. Tomorrow’s MIVA championship match for the right to represent the MIVA in the NCAA tournament in Fairfax, Virginia will take place in Worthen Arena where the Cardinals have won a staggering 90% of their matches the past 2 seasons. With that said, BSU and Ohio State are two of the nation’s hottest teams combining to win 21 of their last. 22 matches. The only loss being BSU’s 3-2 loss to the Buckeyes in Columbus. Match time is 7:00 and a great crowd is expected for this titanic match-up to decide if the Cardinals or Buckeyes will go dancing in 2023!

Seemed like this team struggled with injuries and inconsistency through most of the season (the first does often lead to the second), but I thought they finished well and Cruz deserves some credit for that.
It's been a good first two years for the coach, but before we anoint him, how about we see what he can do with his own recruits.
Not sure where everyone is eligibility-wise, but it's been a pleasure to watch Jenness and Egharevba play as Cardinals.

If Mr T stays and keeps improving that’s a helluva cornerstone.

If Mr T stays and keeps improving that’s a helluva cornerstone. Yeah, seems like he might be someone the birdfeeders would want to provide with some seed.

Great point about Donan Cruz peaking the Cardinals the final weeks of the season and he did it with All- American Kaleb Jenness playing with a labrum tear in his hitting shoulder. Jenness only hit soft tips and rolls in practice saving his shoulder for matches ever since he hurt it in the Hawaii match opening weekend in January. The strategy worked as well as possible as Jenness only attacked at likely 75% velocity all season long and nearly led BSU back to the NCAA tournament. Tremendous crowd on hand for the Ohio State match last night. Why BSU doesn’t have a pep band for men’s and women’s volleyball, the university’s most successful indoor sports, is a total mystery. The Arena was rocking last night and give Ohio State credit, they played an amazing match. BSU made more unforced errors than they have made maybe all season and still kept the match close. 3 consecutive serving errors the final 3 points in set 1 may have ultimately cost BSU the match as the Cards lost 27-25. Anyway, another MIVA championship season that came up just short of back to back NCAA appearances.
