Talking about extension is ludicrous at this point. We've done nothing to warrant that. Jumping from 5 to 7 to 19 wins is an accomplishment. Losing 4 of 5 down the stretch when it really matters and another first round exit in the MAC Tourney puts a stain on the progress. Until we win a title and are consistently one of the teams to beat in our league, we won't have to worry about losing anyone. Also add, until he proves he can recruit .....................

Two years from now when Tyler, Kiapway and Sellers are seniors will be the year, IMO when the expectation should be a championship. By that time, Whitford will have to have been given an extension of at least one if not two years. Sandy will look to see if our recruiting and results are trending up. My guess is Whitford's seat is not remotely hot and unless we collapse next year which I doubt we will, we will trend up. I don't think we'll be competing with anyone for his services but he'll still get an extension at some point, probably end of next season, next summer.

Which is why I expect another pre-con schedule full of crap next year. This smoke and mirrors show may get him an extension.

From the MAC page:
MAC Coach of the Year Keith Dambrot, Akron (14) *Wins Coach of the Year on Total Points James Whitford, Ball State (14) Saul Phillips, Ohio (4) Nate Oats, Buffalo (3) Rob Senderoff, Kent State (1)
One or two more wins?

Yeah, frankly if we had won CMU or NIU and gotten a bye, he may have beaten Dambrot for this.
On another note, with all the criticism of our non-con schedule, we had to have that this year. Two years ago we played a much tougher schedule with a lot of the same players we have now and got drilled. This team needed a soft schedule to learn how to win again, after 17 straight losses to end the previous year. Going forward, I'd like to see a mix of other regionally-close mid majors like us, a few bigger names and a few cream puffs. We should be in a position now to be competitive against that kind of a schedule.

It took me about five minutes to write a few names of schools that would be good OOC teams to play. Oakland,Detroit,Wayne St. North. Ken, Cleveland St., Evansville, IL. St., Loyola,South. IL, East. IL, East Ken., West. Ken,South Ala, Fla Atlantic, Fla International. There are many more.

I'd like to play Indiana State, Valpo, and Butler (ideally) every year.
I'd like to play one or two teams from IUPUI, IPFW, Evansville, Purdue, IU and Butler (realistically) every year.
I'd like to play at least one non-Indiana team from each of the Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley, Horizon, and Summit League every year, preferably a team with about the same standing in those conferences that we have in the MAC.
I'd like to not see non-Div 1 teams on the schedule.

I agree on the above list... the in-state rivals should be on the schedule. Butler ain't happening in the fashion it used to after their ascendancy, so the most we could hope for is a one-off game at Hinkle or a neutral court game. I'd like to see one-offs in that fashion with Big1Ten schools in general. Beyond that, a couple Simon Frasiers over the break or during finals, and fill out the rest with mid-majors of a comparable level (or, rather, a comparable level to where we want to be). For one, I'd like for us to play Belmont. Yes, this is selfish because I work within walking distance of the Curb Center and thus could attend the game (and my daughter is likely going to school there in a couple of years), but also because this is the kind of program we once were and should look to be again... perennial favorites in their conference, and one of those "hate-to-see-them-in-your-bracket" kind of threats for the big guys in the NCAA tournament. In my time in Muncie through the '90's, the Cards were in the post-season 10 of 17 years (six in NCAA, four in NIT). Since 2004, Belmont has been in the post-season 11 of 13 years. Obviously it would be near impossible to dominate the MAC like they dominate the OVC, but stability in a program to allow 19 or more wins every year since '04 is something to aspire to. If I'm going to be selfish, I wouldn't mind games at Lipscomb, MTSU, Vandy, or TN St for that matter...

I'd like to not see non-Div 1 teams on the schedule. Except in an exhibition game pre-season. Had we played IU-K before Bradley I think we would have beaten Bradley.

I'm fine with non-Div 1 teams in pre-season exhibition. I just don't want them counted in the "look how many wins we got this year!!!!" column.

Sounds like more fans are looking at a D-1 schedule with favor!! I like it!! A couple or three ''preseason'' games...no problem.

I'm already tired of the off-season discussions.
Wake me up when we sign someone.

No, the sectional re-draw eliminated that March trip.
