Would you have any faith that Neu is the right head coach going forward if 2023 is a 3rd straight dud?
Personally, no. IMO 2019, 2021 and 2023 are in a broad view much more representative of his tenure than the amazing yet fluky 2020 short season. And being yr 8, blaming everything on Lembo or the transfer portal when other MAC West schools have the same transfer portal challenges is a lazy excuse because Neu is a "BSU guy" vs an outsider like Lembo.
And I truly do hope the national expectations are well off like they were in 2020 but fear BSU could be a 5-7ish team.

I am going to give credit where/when credit is due. Coach Neu has successfully engineered a modestly lucrative career out of his sub-par coaching and managerial abilities. To be fair, he has certainly recognized the equally inefficient leaders that exist in the administrative group and has maneuvered himself to downplay the typical university’s athletic mantra of expecting immediate or mid term success and improvement.

Just to clarify, the expectations I've seen are pretty low, something like fifth in the division. Fifth is typically a 2- or 3-win conference season.
So to beat those expectations, he would need to go .500 against the league. I'd say if that doesn't happen I would be open to a new coach.
Here's the other thing though. Loyalty is usually seen as a great thing but I think in Mike's case it's not. Was Mike's hand forced on the Elson issue? I think that's been discussed, and I tend to think Mike never would have fired him on his own. And yet that firing resulted in our defense going from terrible to respectable. And wasn't Elson fired after 2019, so the year before the title run?
If we have another lackluster season offensively, is there anyone who might force his hand on Lynch. Can't imagine that Mike would do that on his own and he might even resign if someone tried to force his hand there.

I do believe the Elson firing was forced and I agree he will not fire kevin unless its forced.. Mikes problem is a new AD who appears and from what Ive heard is more sports oriented meaning he likes to win. He is less concerned about strict budgets and social issues I think he is going to want too get his guy sooner than later. He seems to be pretty well connected. I will also say we have picked up alot of new sponsor names. I dont know how much they are giving but a lot of new names

If we don't have a winning season it is time to move on. Simple as that. Neu has had 1 good season in about a decade. I have given him the benefit of the doubt for much of his tenure, but if you can't get results it's time to go.
Hopefully they exceed expectations this year.

I expect us to be better than last year. Don't expect a lot more, but this question is harder than it looks. Wins and losses aren't the only measure. If they play like last year, I won't like it whatever the W-L record. If they play differently and we see entertaining games, it could be very promising for the future. Not sure I'd care about record as greatly then either.

I would just like to see us coached and playing games to our strengths instead of doing the same old things with different players.

I don’t think any other MAC team would have put up with one winning season in eight years! 6-6 is not a winning season, especially when you get your butt kicked in a bowl game! Need to be 7-5 and win a bowl game to return IMO. By the way, I feel we will probably be 5-7 and maybe 6-6 with the ball bouncing our way!

If you're a fan favorite or a booster buddy you can hang on for years. Mike is neither Imho. This is a litmus test year on whether his culture translates to something. If we win 4 to 6 games it's past time to move on.
