There could have been some burnout down the stretch too as long as some of the graduating young ladies have been playing. They put a lot into the program over the last 5-6 years and had great success and once the Mojo was lost the backend of this season it just seemed too much to get back.

They put a lot into the program over the last 5-6 years and had great success and once the Mojo was lost the backend of this season it just seemed too much to get back. I watched a lot of matches. Last half they just struggled against big hitters. I don’t think our block was as solid as needed. They also relied too much on their freshman POY for kills. Needed more people involved. Just my opinion..

I think help is on the way. Buffalo, BG, Western, had some heavy hitters still we were just a few kills short. Went to the wire with those teams and just missed out on the tourney. BG took Western to 5 sets before losing. Our match with Western was a classic.

Funnily enough, MTSU beat Auburn earlier this year and Western Michigan just beat Auburn in the NCAA tournament.

Western win was decisive and surgical. Pundits dismissed Western as cannon fodder. What they do not understand is the high quality of MAC volleyball. Shondells influence had a lot to do with that. Check the number of national volleyball coaches who played for Ball State. Western took the star Auburn player out of the match. MTSU was good 20 wins. BSU experience found a way.

WMU is the most impressive MAC volleyball team I've seen in a long time. Just dominant in all facets. I'm sure our coach and WMU's coach have received calls from bigger schools in recent years; it's a testament to the quality of the upper tier of the MAC that they haven't left.

Sometimes you burn all your energy fighting back and don't have anything left to finish the deal. Great effort though.

Sometimes you burn all your energy fighting back and don't have anything left to finish the deal. Great effort though. Yep. Not only have you expended a bit of extra energy, but the other team also digs in, wakes up, can figure out what made you succeed and counter it. Hard for us to improve that last set.

What a wonderful example of never giving up. Thanks to the team for such inspiration.

Was at the match last night. Really felt like what was said above was the case. Just ran out of gas after the comeback. Great effort.
Also, we watch a lot of volleyball... My wife played (and still plays club/rec), so between BSU men/women, South Carolina, MTSU, and AVP and other pro and Olympic competitions, vball is on constantly. From watching power conference matches (mostly SEC), I can easily state the pace of the game and the size of the players is vastly different. No surprise... same for football and other sports. But, that just means you have to be closer to perfect to win these games. The two sets they won (and in the 1st set that was really close) they were defending well, getting the ball to the setter in system, etc. Less so in the 2nd and 5th. Lot of out of system plays, dumps over the net, etc. still playing scrappy to stay in it, but Clemson bigs were dominant during that period.
A couple points in the 1st set in particular and they could have won. Glad they didn't fold after going down 0-2.
