I think he went berserk in the weight room and added 25 pounds and it’s just made him lumbering. I read this summer that he set an IU record by doing like 25 bench reps of 225 pounds. He’s huge but it’s really hurt his mobility and like at Ball State he’s actually drawing a bunch of fouls and going to the line. He has 19 attempts in just 71 minutes of action and has made a whopping 6 of those. He is a mop up scrub on this team. It’s really sad.

Would you feel that way if he stayed here at BSU? I’m hoping he will do well at IU but I do miss Sellers. He’s going to be a pro in a couple years.

I think if he stayed here he would be a focal point of our team and not have turned into a hulk. He’d be playing a lot and not be as huge. I’m not sure his FT shooting would be better but I’d rather play a lot and be part of my team’s success than ride the pine my whole career at a bigger school. It’s why you see players like him transfer down when they’ve been over recruited. Sellers will play overseas if he wants to and Sparks probably will too. Sellers is not an NBA talent.

The one thing on Sparks no one is mentioning is how much money he is making in Bloomington as opposed to what he would have got in Muncie. Figures I have heard he is getting would lead to lots of transfers from any MAC school.

I'm not sure on the exact number, but it’s life changing. I don't blame him at all.

He wanted to be at IU and he got paid to go there. Not much else to consider.

Meanwhile, Enrique Freeman, who was better than Sparks last year in EVERY statistical category is back at Akron and will be kicking our asses again this year.
Also Jaylin Hunter, a similar level of player to Jaylin Sellers (less of a shooter, but a much better ball handler) is back at OU and will be kicking our asses again this year.
Of course, OU and Akron exist in Magic Fairy Land where they don't face the disadvantages Lewis does.
Our excuses are great and all, but...dang it....I would kinda like to see BSU contend for the MAC one of these years.

100k before taxes is not life changing That depends on your life. There's a quote under another thread from Calhoun that Sparks got $250,000 for this year at IU. If that's the case, wonder if the $250,000 was guarantied for both this year and next? I would doubt if next year's money would be guarantied. I would think IU would view $250,000 to Sparks in 2024-25 would be a mis-allocation of funds. Let's say IU goes to Sparks at the end of the season and says something like "we would like you back next year but at only $50,000 or even $0, what would Sparks do?. Is the thrill of wearing the "candy stripes" and having a front row seat at IU games enough for him?

Those individuals, especially these days, are few and far between. Groce at Akron found Freeman in tryouts. Freeman probably feels a certain level of gratitude to the Akron coaching staff. I don't know the story behind Hunter at Ohio, but he may also feel a connection to the Ohio staff. The Akron and Ohio coaching staffs have both been a constant during the college careers of Freeman and Hunter, respectively. Sparks, Sellers, and even Coleman the first time were not recruited by Lewis. Let's wait until a Lewis recruit develops into a "hot property" and see how well he can retain his own.

So Sherm, how was Lewis supposed to keep these guys? Keep them!?! What, are you nuts? Lewis doesn't coach in Magic Fairy Land like Jeff Boals and John Groce do. Come on. Next you'll be expecting him to bring in all-MAC caliber players from the portal like Tod Kowalczyk and Rob Senderoff do! Jeez.
