I was told today that Kellys fundementals are worse right now than they were when he arrived on campus. That instead of being developed he has actually regressed. That to me just makes me ask just what is the staff doing. Trust me when I say this guy knows what hes talking about and it was not easy for him to say this. This staff has just failed in si many ways I dont see how you cant make a major change. That defines so many QBs in 8 years. Honestly, with the total lack of passing touch and difficulty in selecting open running lanes he's displaying, I was wondering how Kelly was even offered a D1 scholarship.

These games haven't exactly given Kelly the film he probably wanted/needed to make the case to transfer up, or even laterally. Still, if I were Kelly my name would be in the portal as soon as possible. I wonder ho long we'll have to wait after the Miami game for some indication from Mitchell as to Neu's future ... either a vote of confidence or a sign of change.

My head line is that we sure scored a lot of points while putting the few fans to sleep.
So.
We appear to have a good defense. With great insight Gus Martin observes we can't pass, but can run.
The defense has improved, and the running game has improved with OL improvement.
Putting aside discussion of the theory that Kelly could have been coached up into a proficient passer or that the staff perversely calls plays he can't execute when there are alternatives, the main conclusion we can agree on is that Kent really isn't very good.
The season story is that whatever the hell happened earlier in the season, we might well have been a bit more mediocre than just plain bad in a couple of games and might have earned a meaningless bowl game this year.
VERY BSUish story line for the season. A long season limping toward the finish line.

Jesus, can we quit describing Kevin Lynch as a great offense coach! Rhguy(?) is a horrible play by play announcer. They always play nice with the coaching staffs. But I agree, he is a poor announcer. Been like that forever. Listening years back in basketball, always trying to use cliches and cute little comments, ugh.

Strangely, I really enjoyed the game but that was probably due to a really fun tailgate! It was a lot colder than I expected if you weren’t directly in the sun. As noted, Kent sucks and we ran well and mashed them into submission so I’ll never complain about that. Kelly is such a conundrum to me. He’s probably the worst passer I can recall in the history of our program but a damn good runner. I truly wish we would just convert him to a wideout and use him like Debo Samuel or even Justin Hall. The kid is dynamic in the open field he’s just not even a serviceable passer to justify planning on him as your QB beyond this season.
Miami has nothing to really play for next week except momentum and a ten win season but that’s enough. Their replacement QB is not much better than Kelly so why the hell not treat this as our bowl game? We’ve won 3 of the last 4 and could have won the other two. Let’s shake off the turkey hangover and show up en masse (maybe 5k) and see what happens. Muck Fiami!

Yes Miami starters for the most part took the day off. I thought at the time it was total disrespect toward our team and in fact the game of football. Miami should have stayed home so that BSU could also take the day off.If Miami pulls this shit again then we should really bruise their backups with hard nosed football particularly from our LB and Of and defensive lines. I hope Toledo really beats them like a borrowed horse.

He was the only qb that could win with this particular team, and probably could have won last year, but yeah long term we can’t play that way and expect to win anything without completely overhauling the entire offense and recruit to an almost option style offense. No one runs that anymore. He can’t throw so let’s keep calling go routes. Ridiculous. We have no clue how to maximize Kelly so the best we could do is just run the same 2 plays over and over. For whatever reason slants just aren’t part of our offense. Semonza will be the qb next year unless some stud comes in via the portal. But we can’t attract good wr to go along with a qb because the lynch offense can’t get the ball downfield. As long as Lynch is oc we're going no where. Doesn’t matter who the qb is.

Something often overlooked. Jared Elliot, former Western Illinois Head Coach disaster is co-OC. He needs to go too.

It says terrible things about are system in general. Going back to last year 3 qbs ran it and looked like hell. So we bring in a Qb who had struggled to throw and win 3/5 could have been 5/5. 2 plays and Qb adlibs/scrambles produce more wins than our offense. Its the Lynch offense and it works Great at Delta highschool... I didnt even mention Paddock

I think, mathematically we are still in contention for a bowl bid given our APR ranking. There are a lot of potential 5 win teams that have higher APR (Miss state, So Carolina, UCF, Rice, Wake, Minnesota). But there is a very small chance if things work out for us the right way.
There are 15 spots left.
1) James Madison & Jax State get waivers to be bowl eligible despite the move from FCS (which they will) (2 spots) 2) Syracuse (potentially 6 wins) OR Wake (higher APR) get a bid (1 spot) 3) Army / Navy winner (if Navy loses to SMU as 18 underdogs) get a bid (1 spot) 4) The 5 teams with higher APR get bids before us whether they win this weekend or not (Miss state, So Carolina, UCF, Rice, Minnesota) (5 spots)
5) The 2 big faves both win this weekend (NIU -19.5 , Louisiana -12.5) (2 spots)
6) The big underdogs all lose this weekend (TCU +10, BYU +17, Washington State +16.5, Florida +6.5, CMU +10, Cal +9.5) (0 spots)
7) 5 of these 8 teams lose: Nebraska -2, Va Tech -2.5 , Marshall -2.5, ODU -3, Illinois -5.5 , Colorado State -5.5, South Florida -6, Utah State -6.5 (3 spots)
8) we beat Miami (1 spot) We should get a bowl bid in that scenario.
