I heard from a source that Shondell is resigning his position as head women's volleyball coach for personal reasons. If it's true this is a big loss for the program

From what I have heard he never could handle the stress of the job or the player parents. Steve is a super guy. I think tom Collins badgered Steve into taking the job. He was a much happier person at Burris. But he loves Bsu so much he took the job.

Hopefully we can bring in a new replacement. Who wouldn't want to coach at Ball State? I'm serious. We are a hotbed for talent even in women's volleyball

The best talent in the area goes to the big time programs. Even Steve had a hard time getting the best local talent. Honestly we haven't been the same since the Collins/Gora witch hunt to get rid of Litchfield.

Idk. We had a top 50 recruiting class last year. Lookout for Carly cappello. She's a good one

As far as parents go, I think he's had plenty of experience with that at Burris and Munciana. Might just be a case of no longer being the big fish in the little pond. Or the amount of time involved with recruiting on a national scale, and a longer season, more travel, etc. I can see where that would get old really quick.

Unfortunately it's true. Announced on ballstatesports.com a little while ago. Very sad. I hope all is well with Steve. A first class person and coach.

His first two years were excellent, but I felt he plateaued after that. This past year's team returned everyone from 2014, added a top 50 recruiting class and went 8-8 in the MAC. It just felt like something was amiss.

Coaching millennials is a challenge. Perhaps there is a mismatch with what/how Coach Shondell teaches. He knows his stuff, and is a well disciplined coach, but sometimes it misses with this generation of athletes, and sometimes with their parents.

Helicopter parents and kids who need "safe spaces" because of imaginary "microaggressions" are going to be the death of this country. In 70 years we've gone from 20 year old men hitting the beach at Normandy to 20 year old children who get scared over chalk. I imagine Steve will find another job, can't see him sitting idle for long. He's too good a coach to be unemployed. Good luck to him.

I've been away for some time but doesn't he have a successful junior camp or something?
