Even minor league baseball is not paying what some of our major colleges are paying for college athletes. This crap has got to stop. As per usual, the courts have their hands into something they should have stayed out of and now they have screwed up college athletics. Like minor league sports, it gives the very few possible big leaguers a shot - but so very few make the majors? College is the same, gives (student) atheletes a chance, but so very few have the talent to make it at the professional level. It all starts with paying college coaches far more than, not just professors, but even the presidents of our largest universities - even at low level colleges like Ball State. Like Neu, but being paid more that the president of the university is sick! Even being paid more than the dean of one of the colleges is sick! This was his first coaching job, what does a first or eight year professor make? This needs to stop, but it probably won’t. To bad, they’ve taken a college sports program and have ruined the beauty of why students, alumni, and friends used to revel in and enjoy. Either I need a change in attitude to accept the new reality or I just need to move on to something else!

Nobody would buy an athletic department excepting the big school programs with high revenue FB, maybe... who aren't selling, anyway. The proposal described above to sell part of a BB program is more credible, I suppose. What maybe needs to be sold at fire sale prices is a money pit mid major FBS FB program. Get the losses off our books... Problem, I can't imagine a buyer there, unless they intended to find other use for facilities, probably liquidate the FB operation. But even then no University would want to give up it's name image, and total control, the reason they have FB is obviously related to that image and to alumni relations, not profit motive.

There was something special in college sports in that different world. Short of that, we do need a massive reality check.

How much is Ball State football worth? Well I love my Cards, but the state of Ball State football over the past ten years has not been good. It has been so bad that Ball State can’t even sell luxury boxes - they’re offering them available for single games! WOW! That says a lot about the State of Ball State football. Want to see it back to where it was in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s or how about 2008! The past ten or so years has not been good for the Cards!

Non power 5 schools just can't be competitive at ANY level. Alabama just cut the ribbon on their new $47M practice facility for..... GOLF!

Non power 5 schools just can't be competitive at ANY level. There is cause to worry.
Alabama is a mega athletic department, not all of the power 5 can come close to them.
The P5 collectively certainly can mostly freeze out competition in FB and maybe at the top level in BB.
A few like Alabama can compete in about any sport they want and dominate.
Not every sport can be that well funded in most P5 schools. The problem is that there is enough money made in most programs for them to pick one or two of the non revenue sports and compete with the big dogs, and to out spend any mid major.
We're a power in MVB but at the moment only a relative few programs are fielded at P5 schools and at a relatively modest level. The new scholarship rules and NIL may make MVB more attractive to more P5 schools and we'll be left out of that coveted opportunity to compete for a National Championship.
