Thursday games were all give-mes and the MAC cleaned house. Friday, Western gave Wisconsin all they could handle. The muffed punt return gave Wisconsin the go ahead TD after the WMU defense held Wisconsin - sad because Western was moving the ball. The fourth and one at the fifty was sad! Why Western played a goal line offense against a Big10 team I am not sure, especially when they had been moving the ball successfully. All-in-all a good game to watch. Western looked good. They will be challenging in the MAC.

Vandy just knocked off Virginia tech. Looks like Vanderbilt got a qb.

Very early in game. But Akron looks good vs ohio state. Fast, physical up front.

Miami did not look great versus Northwestern. Have tickets for Miami vs ND game. I’ll be rooting for ND, but OK if Miami can pull the upset.
Eastern looked decent vs UMass. Will say UMass was not all that bad.
Didn't watch NIU, but they had a solid win.
MAC 5-2. Two losses against BIG10.

I just have never felt confident with a Neu coached team going into a season.

Based on what I saw this weekend, Toledo, Miami, & Western looked solid.

Vandy just knocked off Virginia tech. Looks like Vanderbilt got a qb. Uh…..they got a new QB coach and OC for this year. Coaching has consequences.

Legit coaches, including Jerry Kill as an HC and offensive consultant. Vandy is going to be tough (not talking about against us, but generally speaking).

Ironically, former OC/QB Lynch is gone....Hmmm

Mike never has had an OC who truly understands offensive football today or had a good feel for a game from play to play. We’ve been stuck in that “we do what we do” mentality and it’s been hard to deviate from that in crunch time. It worked for the most part during Neu’s playing days of dominant oline and excellent running backs. That doesn’t work in today’s game when stout d’s can jam you up and opposing offenses can score quickly. The Lynch tree is firmly entrenched in old school football and we’ve been pretty much dead in the water. Finally got a singular talent at Qb and we had no clue what to do with him other than convert him to DB. Hopefully Elliott will run a much more dynamic offense that has some deception and plays against our normal grain to open things up and take the heat off our defense. Maybe have a lot less 3 and outs. Brady Hoke’s fortunes changed when he brought in Stan Parrish. Mike hasn’t made that type of hire.
Watching even Akron looking pretty stout and athletic at times on D, wmu looking very stron vs Wisconsin. Cmu putting up 66 in their gimme, Miami d being vey strong vs Northwestern, etc etc it’s hard to project Mike keeping his job another year. I wish better than that for him but it looks bleak. Here’s to hoping Mitchell has the blessing to make the change and the next HC makes strong OC and DC hires, especially, OC and QB coaches. Continues to be a mystery how Mike Neu has struggled to findand develop championship level qbs. We’ve had several teams that had enough talent to win some games but didn’t have the Qb play and play calling to get anything done.

Also watched parts of all the MAC games and they all looked like they knew what they were doing. Miami seemed a little off on execution. NW was not particularly impressive. I think we have the talent but have not in seven years shown what to do with it. Pemberton and Spegal could really soften up a defensive line and Semonza could do his thing but is there anyone on the team who can get open and catch the ball

We’ve had several teams that had enough talent to win some games but didn’t have the Qb play and play calling to get anything done. That is a fair assessment of Neu - just because Mike played the game, it doesn't mean he has a great feel of the game or good at player development. He would likely have been fired last season but the AD couldn't afford the buy-out left in his contract. With another .500 season, we will have a new HC, OC, & DC next year.
