Give them a Surprise.
Start Kelly & let him play the game or until we are down by more than 2 touchdowns. His staying is enough to show he has earned it. Might even attract other Florida prospects who knows.

I think Kelly should play against Miami but in various schemes featuring his strengths. This would indicate coaches believe in him. Starting him at QB would be another cynical act by the staff admitting that by sacrificing him to save Semonza for the MAC is signaling that we are going to get beaten. Instead of running on the field with our dancing Charlie flag we will be waving a white one.

You could put Kelly in the slot and use him as RB and quick pass game (swing, screen, etc).

Absolutely not. We did the QB yo-yo thing last year and that did not help. You’re also taking a start away from Semonza who would be furious. His arm talent is far superior to Kelly. There is the Florida factor though along with Kelly and his family who were not at all happy with his limited snaps. The one thing that is pretty clear is that switching him to the defensive side of the ball is not going as planned. If you can’t get on the field against an FCS school I don’t see how you do against better competition.
Given the losses we’ve already taken to the WR corps, I’d expect to see him taking reps there and some RPO packages.

I’m still a bit stunned they stuck Kelly at db, where he might never play much, rather than a hybrid role on offense designed to get him the ball a hundred different ways. I’d also have him returning kick offs. Neu in May afyer Kaiel said he’d stay: “Kelly is one of the best athletes in the MAC and I want him on the field as much as possible with chances to get ball in his hands.” Man did that excite us. Also Neu: “but let’s stick him at DB, where he’s never played.”
Now, this was game one. Kelly needs as many reps as possible at DB so it would be counterproductive to spend much valuable time also running him with the offense. Yet. We aren’t going to unveil everything in the opener against a FCS team. That doesn’t mean that over the season they won’t get him more plays on offense, especially in MAC play. I don’t want him taking Semonza off the field much. I’d stuck to wr/rb role like Justin Hall. Kelly could be really good on jet sweeps and passes in the flat. Get him in space. We can’t make it super apparent what we’re going to do with Kelly— that’s a waste and easy to defend. But, If we know nothing else about this staff we know they are sloooowwwww to adjust to reality and find ways to maximize weapons like Kelly. (See the last two years) Gameplanning the offense will remain stoneage until we’re at 6 losses and it’ll be far too late to save Mike’s job). (See the last two years).
Same as it ever was.

Your summary says just about everything about Neu’s tenure as a head football coach and his ability to manage players. We already have sufficient evidence that he isn’t capable of managing the coaching staff…..cough….Lynch…..cough, cough.

Hopefully we were saving a few plays for Miami. Final score Miami 42 BSU 17 Miami put up 41 against Florida. Our loss will be worse.... The best we can hope for is to get out with no injuries. We should use as much or the play clock as possible to reduce the number of plays/injuries.

Possibly our defense won’t hold them to 42 but I think we will put 14-20 points on the board
