It is very frustrating that this BSU offense still thinks its a good move on 3rd and 10 to throw a short flair pass to a receiver behind the line of scrimmage. WTF! It has never worked in a MAC game, and its not going to work against the #10 team with much quicker defensive players. I think Semonza started the game 7 of 7 and none of those passes was past the line of scrimmage. He ended up 16 of 26 for 111 yards passing... a 111 yards! BSU had 9 total first downs, 6 downs rushing, 109 yards passing. So, did we get a new OC? New OC - same outcome. With Semonza averaging 4.3 yards per attempt, we don't have any confidence in the downfield passing. I thought Semonza was holding the ball too long on 3rd & long where he got sacked. In regards to Neu, he is just not a good Head Coach - his record validates that (7 losing seasons in 8 seasons). Maybe he should go back to the NFL as a QB coach.

Regardless of the competition, this team is screaming for needing new blood from an all around coaching standpoint. They deserve better. Absolutely. Never expected to be close yesterday. But to be Bill Lynch vs Kansas St bad? After struggling vs a middling Fcs team and as bad as we looked yesterday, something ain’t right, missing 2 starting wr or not. thinking about us being in a huddle on the sideline while mo st ran a play, the way the pass d has collapsed over the last 5 qtr, to the oline not remotely living up to expectation, this season could get out of hand quickly. 9 years in and we’re still doing the same crap as Mike’s first year. Looking back at last 2 years we had far better talent than our records. To me we look thinner talent wise this year, especially on D. So I’m not sure his we can expect to be better. Maybe if we can get Bowick back soon it can open the o up some. No clue where McDougle is. Robinson most likely out quite awhile. Under Neu we’ve been slow or unable to make adjustments to adversity. We’ll see how it goes this year. Hopefully we bring actual effort v CMU.

The final score was bad enough but when I just read we gave up 750 yards of offense to The Canes I had to refill my drink. How in the actual hell can we be that pathetic?

Everyone expected a blowout, but I find myself, despite not really caring that much anymore, vacillating between 1) We shouldn't have been THAT pathetic (never even got in their territory) and 2) Why should we expect to compete at all with a legit top 10 team, especially given the changes in college athletics?

Actually we got into their territory on the first drive of the game. I don't think we got beyond +40 however, which isn't much different.
I've been told that might be the best defense in college football, especially the defensive line. What bothered me is I think they let off the gas and through they might keep from embarrassing us so badly if they ran the ball and put in their subs. It just got worse. Nothing positive to take from that game except the payout.
This weeks game will tell us more about our team than last weeks.

CMU is favored by 6.5.
Vegas doesn't think much of us.

I was at the game and here are a few others thoughts. - Semonza repeatedly missed simple check-downs to the running backs because he was exclusively looking for Koziol. That's what also led to his holding on to the ball. - We completely abandoned the running game and did so early. We ran the ball a total of 8 times between Sloan and Pemberton. - Not having Bowick and Robinson for what looks like extended periods of time is going to require some different game-planning. To be honest, I can't tell much difference between this year's offense and last year. - Ward was releasing the ball well before his receivers achieved separation because he knew they would get separation once the ball was in the air or win a 50-50 ball. We looked out of position much of the day. - I think they will show up this Saturday. These guys have a lot of pride, are still competitors and based on what I saw after the game we were really pissed they got lit up.

Sure hope you're right on the pissed off part. I don't picture them throwing in the towel, at least yet, and here's a good opportunity to turn things around. At least we're not looking at a situation where we're a 14 or 15 point underdog this week.

While there were not a lot of positives to come out of the game - I thought our defense against the run early on was better than I expected. Sure - late in the game they were running roughshod over us, but in the first half - I thought it was pretty good.
Looking ahead, I think our offense may hold its own against MAC-level competition, but the jury is still out on our pass defense. It was (and is) really poor.

Looking ahead, I think our offense may hold its own against MAC-level competition, but the jury is still out on our pass defense. It was (and is) really poor. I'm not so sure about the offense. After seeing how good NIU and Toledo's defenses were against top competition, and after seeing how dominating Toledo's offense was at Mississippi State, I think we are way overmatched against all but a few abysmal MAC teams. RB and TE seem to be our strengths, but our WR's are injured and I'm not sold on our OL and QB play at all. I think Semonza and the OL have both been grossly overhyped. Speaking of Toledo, I've never been more impressed with a MAC team against a P5 team than I was with that game, especially on the road at an SEC school. Toledo never stopped punching MSU in the mouth after kickoff on both sides of the ball. They OWNED them...MSU looked physically outmatched and out-toughed by a wide margin. The final score wasn't even indicative of the degree to which Toledo dominated that game even though the final score was still pretty danged impressive. They had a few dumb mistakes in the 4Q or they would've put up around 60 points on them and only given up 10.
