2008 put 19200 butts in the seats vs. our published average of 10,800 last year. That’s 50,000 extra folks over 6 games of which maybe a third would be students. So that is 34,000 extra folks/year. I agree. That would certainly equal a financial windfall. 2008 you think can be the norm?
You are right that much of that attendance was student attendance, especially those last home games.
But, assuming we did match that, and still charged the same amount for tickets, that would not dent the deficit we have in FB operations.
Assuming we doubled ticket prices at that level of attendance, without losing customers, a little bigger dent, but not close to breaking even.
20,000 average, 15,000 paid attendance, for 6 games is 90,000 fans, let's say at $50 a ticket, that would be $4.5 mil. ticket revenue. Now we're talking! But still not breaking even...
$50 tickets is a fantasy.

How much more money should we spend and how many more paying fans will we attract? To pay coaches and other expenses that are escalating as interest in MAC FB declines? We can't pay for what we have. As I have stated repeatedly responding to the consistent boring lack of dreamers (bean counters) on this site (y'all know who they are), make good hires and win and the finances will take care of themselves. Buzzkill is the deficit we are running. I am perfectly willing to run a deficit, BTW. What bothers me is the size of it, and that costs of winning are not a constant but are escalating. We are seeing FB coaching salaries and other expenses growing larger fueled by the need to compete with the big conferences with big TV contracts producing revenue to cover their costs.
CFB attendance at our level is not increasing. (It's a tough sell. Especially if you expect parents with kids to pay higher ticket prices.)
Projecting attendance of 20K in late Fall for midweek night games on school nights in Muncie, based on a great tail gate experience, is a fantasy. The MAC TV contract will not make that up.

As I have stated repeatedly responding to the consistent boring lack of dreamers (bean counters) on this site (y'all know who they are), make good hires and win and the finances will take care of themselves. Unfortunately across almost all of our sports our incompetent sports admin continues to be fools, show a lack of commitment, and half ass everything..They have no clue what a successful sports program can bring financially to a university. Completely wrong. It's not that difficult to calculate what a winning MAC program would revenue in a year because every year there are some MAC programs that meet various definitions of "success". And when they do, they still don't come within a million miles of covering their costs. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. There is just an endless dark money-losing tunnel that BSU will keep trudging into as long as the students foot the bill.

Pemberton being sure to score on that play was absolutely the smart thing to do. They might gotten a stop and got the ball back in a one score team against a tiring defense.
