Last nights Buff loss was just an embarrassment to our staff. The kids deserve SOOO MUCH more.
I hate to say it but we're finishing 3-9. Hope they show Neu and staff the door ASAP!
Bowling Green 35 - BSU 14.
What say you?

I'd say we'll get woodshedded pretty well after we blew the last two games. Especially after last night and lost any chance at 6 wins. (not that 6 wins is great) This team is thisclose to being undefeated in the MAC and we're all sitting here in amazement, but, that's just not how things fell. We are just as close to being winless in the MAC. Our margin for error is zero and the coaching and fundamental mistakes have been the difference, going all the way back to that CMU game where we won it under with a minute left, and then somehow lost it by letting CMU go all the way for a TD when the only thing that could beat us was.... a TD. It's been one thing after another like that in our losses. Totally preventable losses. A play or two here or there that we did NOT make. A coaching decision or two that we did or didn't make. (like clock management, or passing passing passing when all we needed to do was pound the running game, or going for it on 4th and ridiculous when we didn't need to, or not having the right guys on the field, or.....) I can hear Mike's post game presser already-- "Obviously....blah blah blah. "Just a couple plays away from winning so many games, blah blah blah. "obviously...." "it all starts with me..." lather, rinse repeat for 9 years. I truly thought Mike would be hugely successful. I wanted it. I've said many times he's one of my all time favorite Cards. I know this hurts him. But it's time to put it to bed now and start over. Obviously....

Ahhhhhhhhhh Makes me wish for the good old days when Scott Miley walked the halls of the Daily News offices. Now he and his sidekick, Nosmo King, would have asked the questions that the inquiring minds of this board would want to know!

Here's a question: why did you throw it 3 straight times after reaching the Buffalo 41 with 1:05 left in regulation? Another: Why did you run a HB pass to start OT? That's just a couple off the top of my head.

Koziol vs. Fannin is going to be talked about a million times on the broadcast.

Right? Love Koz but Fannin has better upside.

That's just a couple off the top of my head. I keep going back to Pemberton, as did the broadcasters, whose is literally built to get you the yards you need to kick a game winning field goal, and was getting you those tough yards throughout the game. The stubbornness, arrogance, incompetence or some combination of all three is incredibly transparent. I'd love to be in the same room to hear the stories these coaches spin to themselves. But we know this for sure...they will be spinning those same stories to themselves wherever they land next year.

But we know this for sure...they will be spinning those same stories to themselves wherever they land next year. We just seem to go into panic or desperation mode when we absolutely do not need to. Ends of games require calm and patience and belief. When we go into "gotta hurry, gotta throw it" chaos mode the players do the same and are unable to make the plays they'd been making all game. And what does it say to your offense when you drive all the way to the 10 and then suddenly you're switching out the QB and maybe putting in backs that haven't been in there. USE PEMBERTON MORE. (and Sloan looked slow and timid last night. Playing injured? Horton was better) And we do it EVERY game, several times a game. How many drives have been killed and turned into FG's or no points because we do that? There's no need for it. Use Kelly between the 30's when the D isn't compressed and closer to the LOS. Give him room to operate, don't squeeze it down. And get him the ball in ways OTHER than as qb. That shipped sailed and has rarely worked well this season. We did such a good job of play calling and having a variety of looks, until the red zone and until that last drive where we decided throwing it was the only way to salvation. And the OT play calls, OY.

Cardfan, that is best synopsis of what is unfolding with our offense I've seen. Explains a lot, at least to me.
And I would add when you go back and look at the RPO with Kelly and Pemberton on the 10-yard line, you'll see that Kelly ONCE AGAIN pulled the ball when his running back had a clear lane. Look at Pemberton's body language and you could tell he didn't know what Kelly had done with the ball almost like he thought the reason Kelly didn't leave the ball with him was because he fumbled it. That to me is clearly a guy out there playing for himself and not the team. Now if I can see that, the coaches can damn sure see that, too...I can't tell you the number of times I told a kid 'I saw that selfish BS you just pulled there...do it again and you won't see the field again.' I NEVER had to have the conversation a second time...granted it was at the high school level but it was still the same message.
But I recognize this is all yelling at the moon, at this point. I see some of the chatter about who the next coach will be...whoever we get will certainly manage games better than what we've seen, if for no other reason than it is not possible to be worse.

Your post last week really gave me insights as to the problems with Kelly's "role" far beyond what I had already thought about.

BG will mop the field with us. The OU game is a toss-up - probably depends whether or not OU already has its spot in the MACC secured.

I hear ya but if Kelly stood up and zinged a perfect spiral hardball at the coaching staff sidelines, I’d not be a bit surprised.

I gotcha Coastal...but to paraphrase the scorpion's message to the frog...you knew what I was when you met me. Or more accurately, you've been with us for three years and you had to have known we were highly likely to mislead you or make promises we had no intention of keeping.

Caution. When I'm Lembo left we considered him a poor coach on many counts and celebrated.
This week we thought a lot better if him
Odds are a new coach will have different strengths but also not measure up to Neu in some areas.
Let's face it we spot error and bad results a lot better than the hard w of ek required to get to the position to make that error a game changer...
