Still seems a remote possibility but at least it IS now a possibility.

Saw nothing really positive about prospects to build in that article.

The only real change is our new head coach sees the need for an indoor practice facility and is willing to talk about it. Funny how Pete's tune changed after his program started losing. On his way out the door he had to take a shot at "lack of support" even though MANY changes/improvements occurred during his tenure, including his pay and assistants pay, new turf, upgraded weight room, and a new building. (even a video screen) Had those things happened when Brady Hoke was around Brady most likely would have stayed longer.

I doubt Brady would have stayed. He had his eye on Michigan in my opinion and he needed more success than BSU to get there. He got a great opportunity at SDSU and that's all he needed.

You do know what created the friction and caused Hoke to leave sooner than he may have, right? (and Michigan being open was NOT a real option when he left. He couldn't have known Rodriquez would be gone so quickly at the time.)

Brady wanted more here. Any coach has to try. But, I think he needed another move to stay "hot" for better jobs. He was not going from here to big school without year after year of success. And I have always had the thought he knew we were facing a decline here. Not exactly that he baled out knowing we had to rebuild, but he was ready to take another good job. SD was that next step.

Brady wanted a larger salary pool for staff. Gora was willing to pay Brady but not his assistants. Plus Brady wanted real offices, not broom closets.

Brady wanted a larger salary pool for staff. Gora was willing to pay Brady but not his assistants. Plus Brady wanted real offices, not broom closets. The battle for facilities has been won, salary problems will always be there as long as the arms race in college football budgets continue. Lembo brought in a good staff and it worked well together. They were a good team and good at developing players. Looked really good compared to the way the previous staff was managed. But they were also relatively low paid. As their success led to other opportunities and key members left, there was no way to replace the quality and the exceptional synergy at the same price. Paying Lembo well enough to keep him was a little bit of a hollow victory. He lost a lot he needed to succeed. Neu at the top with a different personality and different approach is a way to create change, but the key may be whether and how fast the staff can work together in a rebuilding year.

Lembos staff salaries were not a problem relative to the MAC. Nor was recruiting budget. And that was according to a staff member.

Im not going to look it up but after his extension Im pretty sure the salary pool was in the top third of the MAC.. Still pennies compared to other conferences but Lembo and staff were paid pretty well by MAC standards
