Come on we all know it isn't normal and in no way can be considered a positive.

Not sure how much being in California all summer would have kept him from being in contact with the recruits. Did the assistants go to California too? Also, my oldest daughter lives in China and I have more communication with her now than when she was at Ball State, and we lived under the same roof! Texting and Skype, and WeChat (much better than Skype for communicating with people in China) make it almost like she lives across town. Well if that's your standard then hardly anyone ever needs to go into the office again. It's not a question of basic communication. Actually, it has been 8 years since I went into an office. Everything is done remotely. Let's me work for an employer anywhere in the country and still live in Muncie where everything I love most is.

Like I said pages ago this could be normal procedure for a college coach I don't know. I do know that previous coaches stayed here during the summers. Even the one whos name we will not mention. It may or may not hurt recruiting but it makes me think he just doesn't want to be here in Muncie. Again maybe that does not matter either who knows I doubt it could be considered normal. If your family was in town all summer, surely you'd spend a lot of time there in off season. In this case, whether that is "normal" or not, to stay with family or not, I guess I don't know. I've always been in a two career family, and for some years had a similar problem. If you look at University and business hires presently, the existence of two career commutes is much more the norm today. What is normal is just not what it has been the past. Or maybe it just isn't that important. I would not conclude he doesn't want to be in Muncie, but would conclude he wants to be with his family...wouldn't you? I also don't think he will sacrifice his duties on the job. Give him some credit.

I don't know I cant speak for the guy, It does not seem normal to me. I can only tell you my opinion and what I think neither of which mean A thing to anyone other than myself. Ive met and talked with him numerous times, as Ive said before he is not rude but comes off as standoffish. So far he has done little to embrace local fans and or alumni. Now he takes off for the summer, this does not seem like a guy who is real connected to me. I don't know if that's a bad thing or if it effects how he does job

No, all of the guys always put the job ahead of themselves and their family 😘 Thanks for the dumbest post of all time. If the parameters of a job don't fit your families best interests you simply don't take the job. I have passed on numerous job offers in my career only because they were in locals I had no interest in living. (Mostly NYC or Chicago)...............

Look at it this way: perhaps the most important offseason of your career-you gonna leave for 3 months or are you gonna take maybe a month with your family and then get back to business? You want to be a successful d1 coach or a guy with a reputation of not being around for long periods of time.
And no, you cannot compare our situation to Duke, a long time established program that can sell itself and is able to get why recruit it wants and it's coach is respected internationally. (Vs young head head coach charged with resurrecting a dormant program and needs to work harder than the other guy to get it done). Not saying whit can't get it done, just saying he needs to be making hay all the time til the program is back on really solid footing. He's had one winning season in 3 so you cannot say he's there yet. And I'll say it again-- you really don't think our competition plays up stuff like this to recruits?

Yes, and judging from the personality that glows through your posts, yours is a life on which we should all model our own. Thank you. I'm sure Whitford would also appreciate your rigid judgment based on very vague and insufficient information.

Sag is so right on! Thank you Sag for chiming in! First, I must ask Halftime truthfully if he is an alum? Did I not say ALL and Always...can you not read Do you not realize ALL and ALWAYS are a trap? I notice you can't back up most anything you say. You represent everything BSU isn't and you must be in a very low part of your life or be pissed at a divorce or something! You are just an attacking person that thinks he knows bb. I hope you come back at me because I'm setting you up as a -------.

When Whitford was hired, I read that he had turned down about 150K MORE the previous year because he didn't want to go back to Oxford. He wants to be in Muncie. He has his kids in school in Muncie, according to rmcalhoun, and not in LA, where their mother is however much of the year. I just think it's a bad look to go after someone's personal life when you have no proof that it's affecting his job.

It's true that Whit turned down Miami. I like the guy. I hope he hits it huge at BSU. That's great for everybody. I for one am not questioning his private life. As long as there is no negative effect from his being away from his team and Midwest recruiting for 3 months then all will be water under the bridge. But if we struggle again to sign anyone in the Fall then I think it's fair game to wonder what the factors are.

Is it even possible for you to frame a discussion without the use of a Trojan Horse ?
