Bailed on playing us at BSU this season. The buyout didn't seem to be much. They probably never had much intention of coming to our place. Bummer losing such a high profile home opponent.

I think they need to put a "poison pill" into those home & home agreements with high profile teams to make the buyout less tempting than just playing the game in Muncie.

I wonder why the drop. Is it partly because we haven't been competitive or maybe now we are competitive and could give them a game? Or just easier to bring in an easy win. Either way it sucks.

We might hope the AD finds or has found a good opponent but not likely at short notice. There may be some exigency that explains this, but when they reschedule with a home game against IPFW it sound like the reality is that they can add a home game and save expenses, get enough gate to pay for the buyout. Even if it is just they find the game inconvenient and would rather play at home. You would like to think they would honor their commitment, but I doubt we have much bargaining power since the deal was not a great deal to start with when the home game is delayed two years, and now don't get that. Not much we can do. The "poison pill" idea won't work, it would require we have some leverage, but we couldn't even get alternate years on a 3 year deal so we didn't have much leverage and did not get a good deal to start with. We do get the money and can charge the same ticket price to season ticket holders for a game with the Little Sisters of the Poor.

If we do not have "some" leverage as you say, then the reality of doing these home and home deals is nonexistent. If you have no leverage then no one will hold up their end of the bargain.

At least don't give them 2 up front...
But, let's face it we need the money and we need the chance to play good opponents. The big conference schools don't need us as much as we need them.

Agree with the posts above. They probably scouted that BSU might be a lot better this year, and didn't want to chance a tough game on the road. Or else they never had much intent of coming here. Or probably a bit of both.

Wouldn't be surprised if just the sheer travel time necessary to get here and back made it an unappealing thing for them.

I dislike programs that don't live up to their commitments....I'd guess UTAH knows we gave them all they wanted on their own court last year...we were within 3-4 points with like 4-5 minutes to go losing by double digits, and they know we will be improved this season...they don't want a road loss to a Mid Major!!!

You're probably right, we would've had the potential to give them a run for their money this year. Still pretty crappy on their part to back out when we've provided them two wins over the past two seasons.
