Grand Canyon tonight and tomorrow at 7:30 in Worthen.
They are 9-7 against a really good schedule. To one of two matches against #5 Lewis and won 3 of 9 sets against #1 Ohio State.
if we sweep the Lopes, we would have had a REALLY good week.

How many teams are there now in D1 VB?
Our national ranking is frequently very high, but I know it is not quite as impressive as it looks.

It is a such a great game, I am surprised more schools don't support it.

It is a such a great game, I am surprised more schools don't support it. I've never understood this, either. In Indiana, high school athletic departments don't normally support VB for boys, like they do for girls. I'm not certain if other states behave similarly (except CA) to the Indiana model. The fact that colleges offer more sports for women (including VB) to offset the scholarship numbers generated by football (Title IX) might be a significant factor to the interest in high schools.

No doubt about that.
But. Despite all the reasons, Men's VB is just a damned good show and I am surprised schools could not spend just a few shared scholarships to support it. Even if it meant adding a few more scholarships for the women somewhere...

That's the crux of it, schools have to keep the men's athletics programs as lean as possible to reduce the amount of women's sports they HAVE to have. So, sports like VB are cut at some schools, or are just not part of the Athletic program. And wrestling, and men's gymnastics and....etc. Because, football. ;-)

That's just a little over 10% of all high schools.
