This serves no purpose except increase the cost if BSU decides to fire him. Completely bewildering, like a lot of decisions this school makes. Wait a minute. The flip side is that we get a bigger buyout if he is hired away. This allows us to hire better. Of the two scenarios, firing seems a remote possibility. This gives him slightly more incentive to stay until a significantly better job comes along. I have to think he is excited to coach next years team, and to develop players like El-Amin and Acree. Still, I'd bet he is hired away sooner than we want, for a salary we cannot match. The good news is we will have good players up and down the roster, which will make a search easier, no big rebuild required.

He would have to win the MAC multiple times and a couple of NCAA tourney games to get a better job. You are delusional.

He was closer to being gone than you think.

He was closer to being gone than you think. I still believe that was all a bunch of nonsense floated by his agent to Jon Rothstein. He is only one who reported it, and later recanted the story. They were zeroed in on Dambrot from the very beginning. If they did actually interview Whitford it was to apply a little pressure in that direction. Do you honestly think Whitford is dumb enough to turn turn down an A-10 opportunity ?

Leaving to rebuild another program when about to harvest the results of work at this job would not be that clear a decision. But, I always thought he was staying here.

But you don't have to look that far to find jobs where he could be a strong candidate. Multiple MAC wins and NCAA tournament wins would put him in line for VERY good jobs, not just those better than BSU, a step up. This is not that great a job. A better one when he leaves, as I point out, than when he came, though.

Any raise albeit small to most employees displays confidence in that employee.

Dambrot was in a good place, could have left earlier. A good get for Dusquense.

Well we do have a pretty good roster so maybe he gets hired away and the new coach immediately see's we need a good inside player. He hits the Juco's hard and all of a sudden boom next year is awesome... Maybe I am dreaming

I think he is closer to leaving than most of us think. I would think another 20 win season this year, a win over Ok, Oregon or ND & a trip to the MAC final & a NIT win would get him out this year. Looks like a lot but it could happen.

If someone wants to take him that's cool like mentioned earlier we are not in a rebuild mode anymore. Minus the one glaring weakness we are looking pretty decent for the next couple years at least. Whit has not done anything exceptional during his time year. There would be great interest in the job it would just be up to higher ups not to butcher the hire.. We have faith in them right? lol

He has gotten this program much, much more competitive to the point that I think they can make a serious run for the MAC. He still hasn't shown he can recruit a big and he has no signature wins.
So if someone wants to pay him for a two 20-win seasons with the biggest wins being Buffalo and Valpo, then I'm sure BSU can find another competent coach. I like him but he still has a lot to prove.
