As it is this game could have ended up close with one or two plays on either side of the ball. I am not going to write off the Cards. We are probably where we should expect to be after losing to 3 ranked opponents. We might have expected to have a better chance for a really good win in this game than the other two, but Toledo looks surprisingly good.
The real issue is how do we handle it and can we win all the coming games that are going to be close. We need more than our share of toss up games from here on to have a good season.
As far as Toledo being dominant, sure, Toledo was very good. But, it was more than just physical dominance. I am curious what the review of the film will show was so much different in quarter 2. That second quarter really was grim. If this was purely a case of total physical domination, we would not have played even the other 3 quarters.

I only got to see the end of the 2nd quarter and the 2nd half. If Riley was a bit more accurate, the Cards would have been into a close game at the end. Two clear touchdown passes were missed. Oh, well, let's hope for a bounce back at Northern. They will now be in a must win situation as well.

I'm not concerned about rankings of teams we've played, I'm concerned about US. Unimaginative play calling, not attacking, very soft secondary, being unable to control the trenches, appearing a step slow all over the field on D, and very poor fg kicking. All of these things in year 5 of Lembo's program. Just feel we've taken a step backward in years 4 and 5 when things should really be taking hold. Just not impressed with recruiting in the defensive side.

Just not impressed with recruiting in the defensive side. Hard to argue with some of the shortcomings you point out. However, a lot of young players in key positions. Some changes may take place. If if you look at the 3 losses. Overwhelmed by the moment at A&M, but settled down. Should have won at NW, but critical offensive errors cost them. Missed tosses by Neal cost them a potential OT game with Toledo. So not sure how I feel about where they are. This could have been a great start. But, it's not. Let's just end the frustration with Northern. Will be a difficult test.

I'd be thrilled with a win over NIU. That program is Petes kryptonite

Gotta agree with Cardfan! We need to take one at NIU...not playing a close one! If this team wants to go bowling this game becomes very key in my view.
