A look at current MAC Coaches both overall records & records in games decided by 8 pts or less.
Coach Neu's current record is 9-22 & in close games we are 2-8.
Solich at Ohio (14th season) has a record there of 100-74 & since 2013 is 15-14 in close games. Bowden @ Akron (7th yr) record 33-47 & 11-10 in close games. Martin@ Miami (5th yr) record 19-37 & 5-18 in close games. Leipold @ Buffalo (4th yr) record 19-24 & 7-9 in close games.
West Division Carey @ NIU (6th yr) record 48-26 & 20-10 in close games. Creighton @ EMU (5th yr) record 18-37 & close games 11-13. Bonamego @ CMU (4th yr) record 22-24 & close games 11-8.
It appears the average head coach should win about 40% of the close games to keep your job. I think most MAC schools will give the coaches 5 yrs to do that & are looking to see improvement especially based on past histories @ EMU, Akron, Kent & Buffalo. I also feel currently we are in same position as the 4 schools just listed.

Agree.
Neu is not a closer. Carey is a closer. As Lembo painfully learned. Surprised the cmu coach has done relatively well in close games. If Mike could pull strings better in close games, especially this year and his first year we’d not look so bad. Martin obviously in the same boat.

I think we all know what we need to have in close games let's celebrate the 2nd close win we have had in 3 yrs & hope Saturday is the 3rd. Your point is proven under Pete who in 5 yrs was 14-8 in close games & with Wenning at QB was 13-3. So it is pretty clear what you need if your the coach hopefully Neal has arrived.

I am really rooting for Neal to come through for his teammates. I am sure he worked like a dog coming back to play this year and he deserves a break. Maybe last week's game was the break he needed.
