There is something I've checked on after every BSU campaign over the years, and it never seems to get better. Ball State has had 57 victories in the last 10 seasons, and only 11 of the 57 have come against teams that end the season with a winning record. BSU is barely averaging a win versus a 'successful' team each season. To make it look even worse, that's 11 of 124 games played between 2008-2017 – 8.8% of BSU's games have resulted in a win over a 'good' team.
I realize that BSU can only play the hands they're dealt, but this is just another one of those stats that stings.

Question does a win over a C Conn St team with a winning record count as a win over a successful team?

Good Q - I counted the win over SE Missouri St. in 2010 as one of the 11, but that is currently the only win over a FCS squad with an end-of-season winning record in the last decade.

I'd have to see this stat for the rest of the MAC teams, and maybe even others, to put it into context.

Take for example Alabama, who was 13-1 last season and played a difficult schedule. Only 7 of those 13 wins were against teams who finished the season with a winning record (53.8%).
It's no secret we have only had a couple winning seasons in the last decade and we don't play as tough a schedule as Alabama so those opportunities to beat winning teams don't happen as often as they would for Alabama (for example).

Granted, we've sucked, but I guess my question would be what percentage of our schedule even finishes with a winning record. My initial thought was surely about half of the MAC does, but I did a brief check and that's not true. Typically it seems the MAC is lucky to have 5 teams with a winning record.
And then we play the IUs of the world, big conference bottom dwellers with historically losing records.
If less than 50% of your schedule even finishes above .500, your overall winning percentage against good teams isn't going to be good to start with, even if you are a good team.

Out of curiosity, I pulled the same numbers for TSID over the last decade as well.
NIU is 91-44 in the last 10 seasons, and 25 of the 91 victories have come against teams that end the season with a winning record. That's 25 of 135 total games played between 2008-2017 – 18.5% of NIU's games have resulted in a win over a 'successful' team.

I suggest we add IU Kokomo and Longwood to the football schedule.
