Well, if next year is his 4th year of a 5 year deal, they HAVE to make a decision in the near future. He can't be a lame duck coach trying to recruit. That won't help anyone.
That is quite the precarious position and not likely to make many people happy either way.

No way I extend him this year if next year is much better then yea you have to do it if your keeping him
Yeah, she may end up much more open but with no more money or power.
Priority does seem there to raise money for practice facility. The ability to do so depends on alumni good will and resources ready to go to athletics. Not much reason to think that is on increase though.

Why do you think BSU bought Northside Middle School? Space for the practice facility, and the new Burris High School.
I agree there is space for the practice facility and that transaction is partly why I believe there is priority for it.
The existing building is not well suited to remain in use for Burris and the Academy. It has not been properly maintained and updated.
Theater Department likes the facility, and I understand the theater is in good shape. I would be surprised if most of the building isn't demolished, perhaps some put to academic use by BSU.
The site would certainly be the logical place for a practice facility with new construction of the required new building(s) associated with it. But that is dependent on the money being raised for it.
In a roundabout way this reminds me of Steve Spurrier at Washington. When hired, I was positive Spurrier would be a success. He had experience at every level. I thought he was intelligent enough if he did have any short comings he would have corrected them. I was WRONG. His methods just did not transfer to professional football even though he had played it and coached it previous to his hiring in Washington. I look at the Neu situation and I think he should have all the tools to be a successful head coach on the college level. He was a scout, an assistant coach in the pros and college, a head coach in the arena league, an MVP in the MAC, a QB at Ball State, I could go on but I won't. I do not think we can throw this baby out with the bath water. We need the AD to monitor this program and make a crucial decision early next year. If the Athletic Department decides after six games Neu has lost the team and does not have what it takes, fire him. If they decide enough progress has been made extend him. Following this formula we give Neu the chance he needed to show his wares. If he can not cut the mustard, we release him and start looking for a new coach early which will help the program in not losing as many recruits as if we wait until the end of the season. I believe if we follow this formula we will have given the coach a fair chance. I hope he has not lost the team and he will show us he is on the right track.

If BSU were to not win another game since they are almost a certainly an underdog from here on out, I wonder if behind closed doors her feelings would differ about closing fhe year with 5 losses in a row and a 2-6 MAC record? Now domt get me wrong that isnt factoring in the financial reality of buyouts that would go beyond ADs opinion of the program's outlook.
Well, to begin with, I'd doubt that the feelings she expressed to The Star Press are actually how she feels.
I mean, they might be her actual feelings, but you could also easily argue that they might not be. Reality is folks in these positions sometimes get put in positions where it is not in their best interest to tell the truth. So they lie ... to the media ... quite frequently.
I'm just kinda happy she did a pretty good job of it. Fed everyone the support the coach, staff, team line, which is exactly what I would have expected, and did it without fumbling around and inadvertently placing more pressure on Neu and the team.
Nice job for her first BSU crisis management situation.
